Americans making $13,000 per year spend ON AVERAGE $1000 a year toward the lotto, and NOTHING toward retirement or personal savings.
Oh my. Source? I'm curious to read on that!
Per your request kind sir.

Average family making $13k a year spends $1000 annually on lotto

"A hot tub big enough for 10 plus me", and a beauty contest every night to see which 10 would be selected.

It should be noted that you'd have like 200 million dollars after it was all said and done. (I know 200 million is still an insane amount, but i'm just saying!)
More than that.

I think the government takes 35% of it off the top. You'd get the payout in installments over the rest of your life, or you could opt for the lump sum, which would take a good chunk of it out. I'm thinking 250-300 if you took it as a lump sum.

It goes down to 350 million if you want it all right now, 40% off that = 210million. i.e. "like 200 million"

Got 70 MPG?

I'd take the lump sum, I don't trust the government to make good on that promise to pay it out over your lifetime.

Wonder if you could do it through one of those annuity things they advertise on TV?

As long as you come out with more than you would have with just a lump sum, who cares?

Why you Mutt!

If I won...(of course, I couldn't have...I didn't play)

But if...my life probably wouldn't be any different. Except the bills would be paid. And I'd be able to turn both the Geo and the Mercedes over to professional restorers, and have virtually new cars for a fraction of the cost of comparable 2013 models.

Only trick would be to have no one else find out about it...I'd probably have people I've not seen in 20 years show up and say "Oh Hi".

Take in a lump sum and give 90% away to do something for hurting/poor kids and moms and dads.

its also not those folks problem that they pay a "literal" tax rate in excess of 50% of their total earnings sometimes over 60% in direct taxation.

:D

Well, i dont usually buy lottery tickets, but i decided to today, my gf works as a housekeeper at a hotel, she was left a 5 dollar tip, the serial on the 5 is ? ?777555?33 ? she handed it to me, and since i always read serials, since back home they had a contest that involved a certain sequence. Well, i decided today i was going to just try it and see if it was a lucky 5..... Stopped at a package store (liquor store) and bought a 5 dollar scratchy.. walked out to the car, scratched it off, boom won 20 bucks.... well cost 5 for the ticket so made 15.. made sure to get my 5 back with the prize money. went out to lunch with my gf. Later on today, around 7 ish, we decided to go get a snack, i had a litte left over after lunch, so i stopped at the gas station, and got the same type of ticket, used that 5 again, won 150 bucks :D got my 5 back again.
