TTY Head bolts require a breaker bar. A impact wrench will not do it. The non TTY head bolts might be able to be removed using a impact wrench...not sure on that one. As far as the lug nuts, an impact wrench is good for that. And impact driver would probably take the metro lub nuts off, but wouldn't take a bigger cars lug nuts off. Harbor Freight carries a decent one. LINK Snap-On and other brands make really good ones, but you pay the price. |

i've seen air impact wrenches take bolts and nuts off that were more torqued than a headbolt, unless you are saying that it's bad to do it then i'm sure it can be done. |

It's got nothing to do with the torque values. ![]() (I will explain more when I get the time) |

Go to Harbor Freight and get this http://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-quarter-inch-18-volt-cordless-impact-driver-67028.html also buy the battery http://www.harborfreight.com/18-volt-battery-67029.html It was tested against some high price models and it held it's own. Do it before you break your drill. or get this one http://www.harborfreight.com/18-volt-cordless-14-hex-impact-driver-68853.html but I don't know because it wasn't tested with the others so it's a shot in the dark with it.

I think that I'm gonna pass on the HF ones. First off with the craftsman one it has UP TO 1605 in lbs with the LI-ION battery. Second, I live about 2 hrs away from the nearest hf. I live about 2 minutes from the local sears. If I were to have a problem, it would be easier to go to sears. Third, HF tools are very hit and miss. From what I've heard and read, the older hf electric electric tools were good but not so much anymore. With craftsman, you know what you are getting. It won't be the strongest tool, but more of a mid level tool. Plus the batteries will interchange with other tools. Thanks for the idea robertino, I thought about it, but I think it would be in my best interest to choose sears over hf. I haven't looked at Home Depot or Lowes yet. |

Yea I have looked at the local craigslist. There are no deals at all for what I am looking for. I even looked at St. louis craigslist and I wasn't too thrilled there either. Either there aren't that many impact drivers out there yet, or they might be so knew that people aren't getting rid of them yet. |

hey ratfink, it says the max power is 300 ft lbs. Have you ever tried it on something torqued close to that? Have you had any parts that wouldn't come off? What are some of the tighter bolts you have taken off? IF.....IF it was even just 250, that would be a very good impact. |

I use it on my Dodge cummins lug nuts to remove, they are torqued to 145lbs. Havn't ran into one that I couldn't remove with it yet, although some were pretty close to where you tighten it first, then loosen to get off. Works just as good as my dewalt, but easier on the pocket.
