You have to hate it when corporations of "catch all"/"one size fits all" rules.

Got 70 MPG?

I hope they lose all business in that area for that, they deserve it IMO. There are exceptions to every rule, he shouldn't have been fired for saving an employee's life and saving the store thousands as well.

Another reason not to go to Autozone. I hope a good company sees the article and hires the guy.

P.S. Advance auto has so many online coupons, why would you shop anywhere else?

I read a similar story about a lifeguard leaving his post to save a person drowning in another area. He was fired for leaving his post......gotta be kidding me.

Those are the kind of people that you want working for your company.

He responded to an issue. He didn't freeze up. He took control of a situation that was out of control.
He even had the smarts NOT to shoot the robber as he was running away.

I understand Autozone being upset if they just found and employee with a gun, but in this situation the best thing to do is adapt the rule to situations like this. There shouldn't be a zero tolerance policy on this. Common sense SHOULD over rule any policy but it usually doesn't....

I use to work at autozone they told us not stop anyone stealing from or robbing the store. Had this guy shot the robber the robber could then sue autozone (and most likely win) costing autozone a lot more then 2 grand.

Most armed robbers don't intend on shooting anyone, they just want to get the money and leave as fast as possible.

Dont get me wrong i think he did the right thing but you got to look at it from a business owners prospective, $2000 loss is easier to take then the possibility of hundreds of thousands or more.

Reddevil, you do have a point from autozone's view.

But as an employee, you don't know if the person will shoot or not. Usually they don't but if I have a gun I would have done the same thing. If I have no gun, they will get the money as fast as possible.

If you have a gun pointed at you, I don't think you will have a business owner's mentality run through you head. lol. In hindsight you probably will.

I completely understand what you are saying though.

And nobody's talking about how the store employee was an Air Force veteran!! Another reason to be pissed at Autozone....it's hard enough for veterans to find employment once returning from combat.

Live Long and Prosper.

When I worked at a boating supply chain here in FLA they had the exact same policy. Can't tell you how many times we got ripped off and I was told to just stand there and watch it happen.

I wonder if Auto Zone knows how much money they stand to loose if that young man decides to sue the shit out of them for wrongful termination.

Where the hell is Ted Nugent when you need him?????

I have a few cop friends and every one of them has told me the same thing. If you shoot someone in self defense or in fear for your life... make sure they die. Dead people cant sue or testify.

Also if you ever do shoot someone, make sure its not in their back.

Banshee - my friend use to be a half ass cop. He told me the same thing.

Yeah, the dead guy isn't there to tell his side of the story in court! That always works in the favor of the person who does the criminal in.

Many states have laws that prevent anyone who shoots in order to prevent a criminal act of violent nature from occuring from getting sued. It seems more and more people are taking advantage of the concealed carry permits over the past few years so the criminals always have to wonder who is armed.
