I am hearing that I need to have a specific RPM in order to correctly time my engine. I never really cared about not having a tachometer in my car until now as it isn't like I am racing my Metro. I don't want to spend a lot and was looking at some on the AZ website. This one looked nice http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/1Sunpro-2-5-8-in-8000-RPM-Super-Tach-II-black-face-black-bezel-tachometer/_/N-25x9?itemIdentifier=477562_0_0_ but I notice that it doesn't say anything about a 3 cylinder engine. Are there any good aftermarket tachs that work with a 3 cylinder? I guess worst case you could set it up for 6 cylinder and divide or multiply by 2??? If this would work, would you divide or multiply? I would probably prefer dividing as that would give me 4000 RPM of range since this is an 8000 RPM model. Which is it? Anyway, you don't have a true rice burner until you install a cheap aftermarket tach and fake chrome exhaust tips! I also need some $15 shiny plastic wheel covers for these 12 inchers! Conor |

If your looking for one just for testing try this one: Link--->Harbor Freight Multimeters; Two meters and one is a 3 cyl Tach! See here for a 25% off coupon: Link-->Harbor Freight Goodies... (now with 25% off coupon) Works great; but follow the instructions in my post to get it to work.

The nearest HF is about 100 miles from here but I will likely be there in about a month. I have a couple of multimeters and wouldn't mind a tach on my car. Are there any that can work or be adapted to work on a 3 cly that are not super expensive? The prices on tachs are all over. Something in the $30-40 range you be great. Are there any that are standard products at Autozone or O'Reilly as that is what we have? Conor |

I did some research and it looks like the Equus 6086 is a good candidate for these engines. I also found some on eBay but they were either horrid and ugly or more expensive. The tach goes for $35 or or a little less most places. I am assuming this isn't a huge deal to hook up. Getting the wiring through the firewall/dash is probably the hardest part. I know the dash on the Metro isn't hard to take apart but I was wondering if anyone had any hints as how is best to do this??? Thanks, Conor |

It's not really cheap, but the Scangauge will give you RPM and so much more than you can imagine. |

Yes, I have an OBDI with the California Emissions. I don't think the scan tool would do much good. Conor |

Glowshift makes a 2" tach that works great for about $40 + ride. I run one in my street car, and one in the Bonneville car too. |

And if you really want the Equus then try Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Equus+6086 I see the retail price at about $39. |

I'm curious is if I go to autozone and purchase a tach that has a switch on it from 4-6-8 cylinder if I put it on the 4 will it read accurately. |
