I think (that's the problem XD) that I've got a good oil and filter, I was going to get an ACDelco filter but apparently they went with some economy model now and have cheaper seals. K&N reportedly flows and filters well and has a pretty good pedigree. Anyways $30 to change my oil? Is that reasonable? It would be $20 for the cheapest oil =p and $10 for really good protection don't seem that bad to meeee but I would like a second opinion as I want to baby this G10 and let it know it's loved <3 unlike the previous owner *glares* http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-High-Mileage-5W-30-Full-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-5qt/17018131 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/K-N-Oil-Filter/_/N-j0wv9Zajdeo?itemIdentifier=365773_427818_0_ Or should I hit up the Purolator ? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_oil-filter-purolator-pureone_5708516-p?zoneAssigned=1 Edited by Reista, Feb 3 2013, 01:58 AM.

Oh i know better than FRA M XD I even looked up filters that FRA M makes under other namesThe K&N looked appealing because of high flow but you all are pointing toward the Purolator, I suppose with very good reason- is it just that the filter medium is superior? or the drain back valve? |

Fun fact: The Bosch 3330 should be the same filter as the PureONE. Bosch owns Purolator and apparently ditched their own tech in favor of adopting Purolator's stuff http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-3330-Premium-FILTECH-Filter/dp/B002EBSLA4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Edited by Reista, Feb 3 2013, 04:32 AM.

What about going with one of the larger Ford filters for more capacity? Several threads in here somewhere about those. Just saying.

I heard about those having clearance issues with cars that have AC units? Even so, the Pure one I ordered is already very much oversized, the reason you want a bigger one is for oil temps mostly and to some degree filtration and oil flow Either way I think adding 1 inch to the filter, or adding .1l more capacity really wouldn't show much benefit, even long term. Oil is getting changed every 4-6k miles and the filter is getting chucked with each oil change. That means that neither of them will likely get anywhere close to 'fully used' |

Purolator PureONE had the highest rated micron / pass through of all oil filters, with Wix coming in a close second. With that being said, I still use Wix filters. |

Scored 5 quarts of http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_ultimate-durability&153;-q-horsepower&174;-5w-30-synthetic-motor-oil-%281-qt-%29-quaker-state_8050020-p for $15.50 I've used QS for some time and I'm willing to give this a go in my G10 opposed to Mobil 1 |

Call me old school, but I wouldn't run QS in an oil lamp in fear that it would plug up. I've taken engines down that ran QS, and they had so much funk built up that it wasn't funny. |

Were they YOUR engines? Engines that were responsibly owned? QS isn't absolute performance, I agree, but it can take a beating. I ran it in air cooled bike engines that get much much hotter than the G10 ever will and when I rebuilt after 20k all the metal was clean as could be. I don't really plan on sticking with QS for the life of the car, but money was tight, and for $15 this was a steal (it's normally around $23), QS or otherwise. Lol- look at me bickering over $8 XD |

I think Napa sells Wix filters under the Napa label. They offer some oversized filters that hold more oil than the O.E.Replacement filters they sell. I'd give you the number but my garage door is frozen shut. |

It was my Uncles 1968 GMC, which was very well maintained. At 230K miles it was using a quart of oil every 1k miles. He decided to take it down and overhaul the engine. The engine had crud 1" deep at every location. I've seen many other engines that used QS that looked just as bad. Fast forward to my 1994 Dodge with 200K miles. It doesn't use a drop of oil and the engine is unbelievable clean, inside and out. I have always used Castrol 5W-30 and Wix oil filters. It is true that Wix has produced oil filters for many years, before they put there own name on them. They are good filters. |
