i just got done completely rebuilding my 1997 geo metro 3cyl 1.0. Replaced the pistons and rings, all new valves and seats, new water pump and oil pump and now it wont start. so i did a compression test on it and got 0 compression in all the cylinder , So i removed the cam to see if it was the timing after removing the cam i was getting about 35 in each cylinder. any ideas on what it could be and why it wont start? Thanks for all the help |

Valve lifters collapsed? Need to pump back up before they'll open the valves. |

The lifters need to bleed to the new valves, put it together and make sure the timing belt is on right. Let it sit overnight, make sure you have 5w-30 oil. Start the car.

sounds like the lifters are stuck open.... take them out, disassemble, clean, rebuild. DO NOT PUT OIL IN THEM!!!! |

Is it a good idea to soak them in oil before you install them? |

This. http://geometroforum.com/topic/3937058/ If you don't remove the oil from inside the hydraulic unit in the valve lifer assembly, the valves will not close, and the engine will not run. I assemble my lifters with 2 drops of oil. One on the hydraulic unit, and one on the cam follower where the hydraulic unit sits. One more squirt of oil on the top of the valve, a squirt the outside of the lifter assembly, and a little on the top of the lifter and the camshaft lobes. It's never happened to me . . . TWICE! |
