Doing my rebuild as I have time. A few hours a day, No problems from any bolts so far, even exhaust bolts came off easily. I took everything else off first then started on the valve cover/head Currently my timing belt is off and I'm trying to get the cam sprocket off so I can replace the seal. I dont have access to air tools and there is only one partial hole in the cam itself at the far right end. This hole does not go all the way through and Ive tried putting a screwdriver and punch in there (I put a leather glove under so it wouldnt mar the head) but when I put a little stank on the cam sprocket bolt it just bends my tool in the hole. Im using a decent ratchet and even a breaker bar but no luck. Would some PB help me? Thanks ahead of time!! |

My vert had the same camshaft, I found a steel punch that would go in that little hole your talking about and jammed it against the head and right on off with the cam gear bolt. Its not as nice as the holes that go thru the cam but it will hold if you use a hard punch. I used a center punch that tapers. Instead of a roll pin punch. |

yeah I did google it, I just dont have an air ratchet or a way to use the old belt or the force lol. Ill try heat tomorrow and maybe a more solid punch or piece of steel from farm and home |

Personally in this situation, I would not use heat. A small tapered center punch that will fit in the hole has enough meat on it, you are not going to bend it. |

I just used a #2 phillips screw driver. Works every time. The strap wrench is a GREAT idea. |

I used a chainwrench on a crank pulley to hold a crank not too long ago. ![]()
