Purple Power and hot water is a really good way to clean parts. Scrub as required. The cleaner, the better.

Lightly rub some 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper on the bearings. Make sure to keep them in the same position. Scribe the back of the bearings to mark them.

Plasti-gage the bearing clearances and check the ring gaps.

You are now the next "Previous Owner". :evillol

Lol well hopefully whoever has it next won't be cursing me as they meticulously clean and fix engine parts.

Next question I put the rings on and before I put the piston in I wanted to double check if this ring gap placement was ok.
I vaguely remember my auto teacher saying that you should just face the ring gaps away from each other, because you will have problems if you install them all the same direction. Also it doesn't really matter which directions because they move anyways. Don't know if this is true or if I'm crazy and just thought he said this lol

Anyways here's a paint image of how my ring gaps are facing

You should be fine! Re-use them rod bearings and get the intake valves cleaned up and lap them in along with the new exhaust valves.

Ok so I put the piston rings in and rotated the crank a few times. It's smooth but there is some noise. Is this normal? or did I kinda fudge something up?
