If high idle is the problem, check your throttle cable adjustment. Is this the issue you are having?

I am experiencing a high idle and surging. I've tried the IAC. Disconnecting it makes no change.

Did you plug all the vacuum ports? :news If so, you have a vacuum leak some place else. :hmm

The idle sits at about 1300. If I step on the throttle and then off the throttle the RPMs will bounce between 1300 and 2000 a few times before settling. I've double checked my vacuum hose routing and It is all correct. I set timing to 5 degrees BTDC with the check connector short circuited. When I take the short out, timing is 12 degrees at idle.

That's all I've checked so far. If there is a vacuum leak, I have not been able to locate it.

If I unplug the electrical connector on the iac, nothing happens.

Disconnect the throttle cable completely and see if it idles down. What about the timing?

Hi HydroJim, congratulations on your beautiful project!!

To share my experience with you... Once a while ago I was having high idle problems due to a stucked IAC. Even when I disconnected it, still so high because the plunger did not fully come back to it's normal position, so, if you already unplugged that, also unscrew it from the throttle body ans see if the throttle lever shaft gets losen.

Just in case. :thumb

The idle should have changed disconnecting the iac. If it didn't its not working. Try plugging the line that goes into the manifold from the iac. If it changes, do the iac fix.

Got a lot done the past few days. Got the car up on the alignment rack and got everything in spec. I have slight positive camber on both front wheels but I'm thinking the car might settle closer to 0. Just more of an excuse to lower it! ;)

Pretty cool looking underneath. Wish I woulda sprayed some paint on the engine and tranny. But they're still pretty clean.

Last but not least, I wet sanded, buffed, and waxed the car. Now I just have to finish up the doors and I'll be ready to roll.

The car still has some wax residue on in this pic but the paint job came out pretty good for a rattle can paint job. I wish I had a paint booth to keep the dust out of the paint. But it's not too bad.

I'm on it!

Got the driver's side mounted

Did I mention I hate working on doors? I got everything to work except the outside lock cylinder does not unlock the door. Doors never go smoothly for me.

Spent some time finishing up little things. Detailed the engine bay and interior.

I'm almost done and ready to go back to Ohio. I'm going to get my windshield on Wednesday and might get my windows tinted depending on the quote.

Ok, grain of salt here, as I have not worked on the doors of an older car, only the doors of my 96. So I don't know if they're set up the same or not. That said...
I, too, had a lock cylinder that would not do anything to the lock. If you locked it from inside, YES, the lock works.
Take stuff apart, and found out that there is this little plastic thing. It goes on the rod, that slots in to the tang, that hangs off the lock.
The plastic thing goes on the end of the rod, and you snap this little wrap-around part, around the rod, after it bends.
If you look at it, it will make sense.
Anyway, I didn't have that thing. So I got one at a junkyard, and now it works!
And the OTHER door, had a bent lock-actuator rod, (credit to my nephew for noticing THAT), and once I gave it a couple of taps with a hammer to straighten it out, it works great, too...

I know exactly what you're talking about! I'll take a look tomorrow. I grabbed two driver's side doors at the local pick a part so I could piece together one good door since the PO of my car destroyed the original one on the car.

What I was getting at with the having 3 doors story was that It's easy for me to see how things should go together. So I should have it figured out tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip

Got my windows tinted! $60 for 35% tint on the back 3 windows. In Ohio the front windows have to be 50% or more and the place didn't have any 50% tint since TN has different laws. I'll be out of Ohio in a year anyway so I'll just get them done then.

Car is pretty much done. I need to adjust the throttle stop screw a little. But the car is running great.

The transmission I bought with the used engine has a leaking shift shaft seal, a stripped drain plug, and a crunch when going into reverse so I'll have to drive like that for now until I have time to rebuild my original transmission or I'll send it off to fainya. So that kinda sucks.

I'm really liking the G13 flywheel and underdrive pulley. I think I need a short throw shifter because if I'm not shifting like speed racer the ride is a little bumpy. But I might get used to it.

Evergreen head gasket is holding up well so far. 70 miles on the car. No signs of any problems. I'm pretty happy with it. As long as it lasts until Christmas I have no complaints. Any longer is just bonus
