The crunch the in reverse is one of two things, you are not waiting long enough to shift, or your clutch cable isn't adjusted right. At least that has been my experience.

Nice work kiddo. That ride was hideous when you bought it, now it looks great. Keep up the good work.

You need to stand back a little with you hands on your hips, and say "I built that". That was a lot of work, and you should be proud of yourself. Congrats!

I know exactly what you're talking about! I'll take a look tomorrow. I grabbed two driver's side doors at the local pick a part so I could piece together one good door since the PO of my car destroyed the original one on the car.

What I was getting at with the having 3 doors story was that It's easy for me to see how things should go together. So I should have it figured out tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip
So...? Did you get the lock fixed?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. They put a picture of me on the hall of fame here at the tire shop. It's a signed picture of me and the car along with signed pictures of a bunch of famous people who get their tires done here. Pretty cool :thumb

Mythstae- yep I got it fixed. Rods were just bent a little. It doesn't quite have that right "click" but the door opens without trouble. Just doesn't feel normal.

Can anybody help with my clutch adjustment? I've got a brand new clutch in the car and it's at the top of the travel. The clutch cable adjustment nut is about halfway on the cable. And my pedal free play seems to be in spec. I don't think I'm doing something right. I've read the FSM and some threads on here. Nothing really seems to make sense to me.

I've read that the adjustment nut should have some play but if I back the nut off enough to have play, then all of my pedal stroke is just freeplay.

Hope this makes sense.

You put a 1.3L clutch plare disc in there , right? Might be a little fatter/ thicker than a 1.0L disc. You might be out of clutch cable length because of the fatter disc.

I think I just misunderstood where the freeplay was supposed to be. I read this and it all came together for me:

Quote:

Push the clutch lever in by hand till it hits resistance, tighten the bolt o this point, then let it out 1 turn. Essentially you want 1/16" or so free play on the cable at the transmission. There is no adjustment as the clutch wears, except for rechecking to see if the 1/16 of slack is still present. Theoretically, you actually need to back out the nut as the clutch wears down.

Now that makes sense! I adjusted the cable so I'll see how it is. I'm thinking that having a resurfaced G13 flywheel means that the clutch disc won't make contact until your pedal is closer to the top? Clutches always seem counter intuitive to me.

I also calibrated my TPS today so I'll see if the car drives a little better now. I was experiencing a bucking at certain throttle positions. Seemed like the computer couldn't decide between enrichment and fuel cutoff so the car was just bouncing back and forth on the clutch springs. We'll see how she drives today. I leave for Cleveland tomorrow morning so hopefully I make it in without any issues.

Huh? WTF? Where did you :news that? Sounds like a steaming pile of :shit , to me.

Theoretically, as your clutch wears down, you may need to tighten the adjustment nut, ever so slightly, lest your position of depressing the clutch pedal to achieve complete clutch disengagement, creep ever closer toward your floorboard.

It may sound like :shit but that's the way it works.

As the friction material on the disk wears, the pressure plate fingers will come closer to the throwout bearing, eliminating the freeplay you adjusted to at the cable end nut. Also reducing the freeplay at the top of the pedal. If you adjusted the freeplay to minimum at installation and did no further adjustments, it would eventually wear until the clutch starts to slip without your foot on the pedal at all. To compensate for wear, you need to loosen the adjusting nut on the end of the cable.
