1,100 miles roughly. It runs rich for some reason and Johnny seemed to think I was burning some oil also. It drives well so I'm not worried about it until I have the time to rebuild a nice engine.

Just got back from 5 days in the hospital. I had some kind of infection in my calf muscle and they've been injecting 3 of the strongest antibiotics they had in to my bloodstream. So the past 5 days have sucked. But, I felt up to working on my car today so I installed a shorter accessory belt which should get rid of my belt squeal. The temp was dropping rapidly, but I took the time to spray all the damn salt off my car. She looks good!

Yeah it was some nasty stuff. Not sure how I got the infection and it wasn't in my blood so they were never able to get a sample to see exactly what it is. They seem to think it was strep because about 3 weeks ago I had a sore throat and my lymph nodes were swollen. I got better in 2 days and everything was cool. Then, last Sunday I woke up in the middle of the night with a really bad temperature and I couldn't walk or use my leg from the pain the infection was causing. That's when I went to the ER :thumb

Still on antibiotics but almost all my pain is gone. I'm happy to be alive. :D

2014 to do list:

nagging things I need to do in the short term:
install my recently purchased passenger side mirror delete
install new speakers and head unit
driver side rear wheel bearing.
passenger interior door handle

long term to do:
install my turbine tech frame brace
lowering springs
front and rear strut tower braces

I'm trying to stick to the most bang for my buck upgrades. My goal is to get this car through 4 years of college so I'm going to be sticking to maintenance more than upgrades. There are a lot of things that I find really tempting but I just need to try and avoid dumping money into the car.

One thing that has really been bothering me is that when it rains, water enters from somewhere on the top of the car, drips onto the driver side a-pillar cover and then makes its way down to the floor. I had my windshield replaced and it is a possibility that it is leaking but the fact that this metro had a hole in the driver's side floor pan when I got it makes me think this has been going on for a long time. I have no idea where the water comes from... It's quite the mystery

Heh, I get tempted too but if you think about it, the overall cost of all these parts would still be less than or equivalent of buying another used car. Win, win, win.

I got the same problem with the water issue -- I have holes on both sides of the floor pan and I can't quite tell where they're coming from. I'm thinking it's coming from the wheel well... except it looks kind of solid.

The only way to test it is to get a hose and spray water on your roof or wheel well. Since you mentioned you "took the time to spray all the damn salt off," I think you can do this experiment.

Let's take this a step further, as spraying the top of the windshield will put water in a lot of places that could also be the location of the leak. Pull the a pillar cover and see if you have a rust trace that leads to the location of the leak.
If that doesn't take you to the location then identify the possible leak locations. One is the windshield seal. Another, less known is the roof seam. It's hiding under the trim strip that runs from the top of the windshield to the hatch. If the car has been in an accident the seam could have opened up and be allowing water in, but it's really hard to tell. Also, maybe the door seal. For every possible location get a different color of food coloring. Drip the food coloring into the areas where the leak might be, let it sit for a few minutes then add water until the leak comes through. The color of food dye will tell you which location is leaking.

I used this method to determine that the roof seam was leaking at the back of my car. Turns out it has been hit on that side.

You might be a genius! My car was in a front end collision on the driver's side which is exactly where the leak is and the fact that I wasn't considering looking for this seam would explain why I have yet to find the location of the leak. Now, maybe you would be so kind as to share how you fixed the leak?

EDIT: wait a minute we have different series of Metro. My roof doesn't have any seams... Damn. Back to the drawing board.

Are you sure? that roof is a separate piece that was attached somewhere (having not spent any real time with an early Metro I can't swear to this, but I would be very surprised if the whole top half of the car was one stamping). I used silicone, smeared in the dip under the trim strip. It lasted several years but is leaking again. The proper repair is to get some seam sealer. Eastwood sells several varieties.

Since you already have a nice looking airdam on it, you should seriously consider addressing the aerodynamic issues with the back end.

Kammback, rear undertray, etc. Reducing base pressure drag will accomplish much more than removing a mirror will, and I have seen some folks build some very nice looking Kammbacks with Coroplast, so not much $$ investment there.

Did some work on the Metro today which should be finished up tomorrow! I just have to solder in the car side of the radio harness and install my new speakers which are supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

New Driver's side mirror? I accidentally broke mine when I got my car stuck in the snow and had to push it out. It's a long story... but I finally got this fixed because it was nagging me.

New-to-me passenger side mirror delete:

Here is my radio to car harness wiring adapter. Pretty straight forward since most of the colors matched up.

The wiring harness adapter all finished up and connected to the radio.

I also took the time to test fit the radio and the plastic drawer into the stock metro radio cage that I snagged from the salvage yard a long time ago. I was able to line holes up and used some spare PC hardware to secure everything in place. I think I'll jam a tube or something between the radio and the drawer to prevent rattling. My Geo vibrates a good amount. :nfs

That's all for today. More to come tomorrow and I'll also be making a trip to the Mullet Metro Garage for some driver's side rear wheel bearing work on Monday. Should be a good weekend for the Geo.

Maybe do both sides instead of just one?
