Yea buddy lookin good under there. Sway bars and body brace for the win man! Would that help with mpg because you wouldn't need to slow down quite as much? Maintaining a more stable speed with mild turns and such? :hmm

Installed my new seat belts today. No more crashing through the windshield. No more slamming the door on the belt. Just good old weight saving safety. Might be the best Christmas present ever.

I also took some cool shots of The Red Baron.

I love the color scheme. :rocker I am planning to do this on mine! I have the same rims too. Q. did the front upper brace make a big difference?

Maintaining momentum is indeed a driving technique used to increase fuel economy.

I installed front, rear, and lower braces along with lowering springs all at the same time. So together they made a huge difference. But I can't say individually.

So I was wondering...

How many pounds of boost can a stock G10 handle? :nfs

The cheapo rebuild that I did on my engine is now consuming oil somewhere. I knew this was coming. But now I'm wondering if i want to do a good enough rebuild, a great rebuild, or a badass rebuild.

For some reason I decided to spend my fall break ripping the drivetrain out of my geo.

Some History:
Since this thread is old, I just want to bring everyone up to speed. Back in 2013 I tore my geo completely apart and rebuilt it. There are a few things I would change, but overall, I love this car. Great MPG, cheap insurance, easy to fix, etc. It can't be beat. Nonetheless, there was something that I've been meaning to take care of. Back in '13, I purchased an engine and transmission from a respected forum member. The engine ended up having a cracked head and the transmission shift shaft ended up being leaky, had a stripped drain plug, and it had a notchy 2nd gear which has gotten worse over time. Back in '13, I did a quick and dirty cylinder head rebuild and put the car's original engine back in with the aforementioned transmission. Since then, I've been meaning to do a fancy pants rebuild and I finally found the time to get it done.

Fast forward two years and I've been gathering parts together for this job. I finally found some free time during my fall break from college. Last weekend, over the course of 4 days, I rebuilt my spare engine, tore the drivetrain out of my car, and put everything back together.

The biggest problem I ran into was a broken head bolt. The bolt in question was a Geo Glenn Reusable Headbolt which has undergone 2 prior torque downs. As I tried to remove the bolt, it snapped off level with the block. Not sure what caused it to happen but it kind of sucks. I'll have to fix that some other time but for now, it remains lodged in one of my spare engine blocks.

On to the pictures:

Got a rebuilt head from ebay. They even took my old cracked cylinder as a core. Unfortunately, I may have forgot the cylinder head alignment dowels when I returned the core. :smackface

Torn down my spare engine:

Removed the existing drivetrain:

Honed the cylinders:

Started Reassembly. I used original bearings and original pistons with new pistons rings. The rings didn't gap up the tightest, but they were within the maximum specification. Should be much better than my old oil sucking engine.

Got the rebuilt transmission mated to the rebuilt engine:

That's all there was to it. I'm now running 3 ring pistons, XFi ECU, XFi camshaft, a 4.10 transmission, an underdrive pulley, and 1.3L flywheel. I've got about 200 miles on the engine since the rebuild. Hopefully I'll find that I'm no longer burning oil. Too early to tell. Going to do my first oil change this weekend since the rebuild. Some say 50 miles, some say 500 miles for first oil change. I'm going with 250 since I didn't do new bearings. I'd say she's really starting to kick though. Much more noticeable power than my old engine.

I have a few more things to cover on my to-do list but I think I'm mostly done with this car for now. I need it to last me through the next 3 years of college and then anything beyond that is just a bonus.

I'm hoping to work on my blue 94 4-door over the upcoming winter break. That thread is here: Blue 4-door
