Speedometer cable, clutch cable, throttle cable, and 1 heater hose and then I'm ready to loosen up the mounts and pull the engine. Any tips for any of these cables?

Throttle cable and clutch cable removed. This Speedo cable I got no idea.

To the factory service manual!

Pull the rubber boot up and pull out the metal clip. She will come out then. Keep up the good work Jim! :thumb :popcorn

Engine pulled. I can't do pics from my phone but I'll upload them later. Time to start cleaning the engine bay.

This the best I can do from my phone. Maybe I'll try the computer at the shop tomorrow.

I'll probabyl get everything else out of the bay tomorrow, clean it, paint it black, and start tearing into the dashboard.

Just out of curiousity, is your car a "genuine" XFI - per the VIN #? It certainly looks like one to me, from the black bumpers and whatnot. Reason I ask is, there was a thread, about a week ago, where someone pointed out that the door pillar of non-XFI cars were painted black, and that the XFI cars were painted to match the body color. There were even some pictures posted (by CB, I believe) to back that up, but I notice that yours are black, too, and yet, yours is an XFI, isn't it? If so, that would appear to blow big holes in that notion. Given how well the paint matches, and those pinstripes, I'd be fairly certain that your doors are original to the car.

Mine is an XFi per the VIN. I have yet to check the transmission and camshaft to see if they are original but it is indeed an XFi. Those door pillars I believe were blue and the paint faded off.

Ahh, that explains it then. It's odd that the paint would be black underneath, though; unless, of course, that was the Base coat. :lol

Got back at it today! Working on the interior now. I completely stripped the engine back except for a few lines and stuff that I'm not replacing. I'll be ready for paint by the end of the week! And if I have to order paint, I'll just spray bomb the engine bay and then work on getting that all back together before I paint the chassis.

Anybody got any idea how to drop the steering rack? I'm taking the dash out soon so that should help.

Got boost?

2 brackets in the engine bay holding it on, and one pinch bolt on the steering column. Take the lower plastic steering column cover off from inside the car and you'll see it

That's where I left off with the car today. A few things to do tomorrow and then I'll pull it down to the pressure washer with the forklift. Then I'll see what I can get in the way of paint locally and decide if I'm getting it online or not. Then while I wait to paint, I'll work on other stuff.

Wow!!!!! I'm impressed with your aggressiveness towards the tear down. Great job, Jim. I like the idea of you pulling the engine/tranny and other assorted goodies. Will you be dropping the gas tank and hitting that area above it with some paint? It would be a good time to drop it to see if there is any rust up there.

What color are you going to paint it?

Will you be doing aero mods like you did on your focus?

What mpg's are you hoping to attain?

Once again, I am envious of your enery!!

Good luck.
