I've read no gasket on 96 and up and to use a gasket on 95 and down. I think this is because of the crank position sensor.

Yes, the sensor is why you definitely don't want to use it on a 96+.
Personally I wouldn't use one on an older car, either.
I've seen a pan that had one of those gaskets on there; the screw holes sink into the cork and it bends the crap out of the flange.

Well, it's on there now. If it gives me trouble it's easy enough to take the pan off and throw some silicone on instead of the gasket which is siliconed on both sides also.

Check this out guys: the roar of the engine!

I'm getting closer to get the car driving around. I have to adjust the clutch, fix my high idle, fix a coolant leak at the heater hoses and I think that's it...

Oh also my passenger side headlight is dim. I already bypassed the ground at the fuse box thinking it would fix the problem since my connector was burnt. But it did not. So if anyone has any tips for that let me know.

I believe that the fix for that is to locate and clean the headlight grounds out in the engine bay?

One dim headlight is usually either a blown fuse under the dash or a bad splice in the wiring harness under the master cylinder.

Got more stuff working and dialed in.

I'm still suffering from these issues:
Left brake light does not function. I suspect it's the bulb so that's easy enough

No radio. The PO had the radio fubar'd in so I cut it out and am going to attach a stock connector from the junkyard

High idle. My idle steadies at about 1300 rpm. My dad will be here this weekend to give me a hand with this problem.

After pressing on the throttle and then releasing, the rpms will hunt between 1300 and 1900. I bet this is related to the idle issue.

When I put the key into the run position, something in the interior makes a prolonged high pitch beep. I don't think it's normal. The ECU is throwing no codes.

My parking brake actuates the brake light on the instrument panel but not the rear brake lights. Not sure if this is normal. But I know my focus turns the lights on.

Everything else is great. I took the car around for a spin in the parking lot. Transmission appears to be good so far. I'll probably get the car on the alignment rack this weekend and adjust my front toe.

If anyone has any tips for these problems, let me know. I've got 1 more week to get things dialed in so I can get back to Ohio. The clock is ticking :die

It's normal, and annoying as hell. (the beep)

Parking brake shouldn't turn the brake lights on. The fact that your focus does that is surprising.

The brake light thing could have been a conjuring from the inner workings of my brain, but I'm pretty sure it works that way :dunno

(either way, your brake lights won't come on in the Geo)

Look into the iac for your high idle.

So I think I found my problem. I'm not near my car right now but I was comparing my photos to this vacuum diagram. And looks like I left the IAC silencer unhooked from the throttle body. So if anyone could tell me where that thing hooks up let me know.
