I am in the process of rebuilding my geo metro and got it all put back together and it would not start. So i took it all back apart and found the problem.. I plan on replacing the all ready new head gasket with another new one but can i reuse the all ready new head bolts. They were only in the head overnight? |

i certianly would replace the gasket, as it is not worth tearing it down again if it was damaged in any way. if you used the cheapest "made in china bolts" concider yourself lucky, because you can now get the good ones. actually, since you have not heated the bolts, head, and block, the bolts are fine to reuse. if you did get the cheapies, you may want to up grade to: metric class 12.9, astm A574m,ansi/asme B18.3.1m socket head cap screws length=100mm. these can be ordered from fastenal, or i believe GeoGlen has them on hand, and for sale. these are higher grade (socket head bolts are generally highest grade) and reusable, even after heating. i think Glen gets around $25. about twice the cost of china crap, but as you have learned, they will pay for themselves down the road. good luck. ps: what was the no start problem, that caused you to have to pull the head again? |

I bought 2 sets of DNJ head bolts a while back. I did not use them. I tossed them in the recycle bin. The ones I got were good for use as lawn tractor hitch pins. DNJ is a marketing company. They get their parts from various manufacturers. The quality varies. GG |

I found some class 12.9 for .75 cents each--are the other designations critical, or do they overlap the class 12.9? |
