Posting here and working at buying another got me thinking about my old 96 sedan 5 speed. Me and buds went camping once, thats 3 adults, a pretty beefy 13 year old and a 15 year old, my 45 pound dog, and camping gear & supplies (no tent, old camper on site), 3-1/2 hour drive. A little low in the back. The only real problem was, over 65 it'd start to fishtail. The 1st time it did it I thought it was me. 2nd time, I stayed below 65 The dog kept trying to get on the pass front floor but not quite enough room, so he stood front paws on the floor and rears on the seat between my buds legs, he had a great view of a shar peis' anus the whole trip lol.I also used it as a minitruck once when moving. I have no idea how much weight but one trip it was STUFFED with mostly books, and just enough space for said dog on the pass front floor. The back end was really low that time. It pulled just fine, but the brakes turned to mush. Anyone else? Pete Edited by piece-it pete, Feb 12 2013, 12:44 PM.

I hauled an 8ft christmas tree, my then wife and, mother in law in my old '91 that i had back in the day. All that with the hatch closed. I loved that car, bought it new and drove it until my (then) wife put it on its top. |

I filled my geo to capacity once. it was so backed I had to "force" the hatch to shut gently and this includes the passenger seat and some of the dash. I had to make a small "hole" to the passenger window and mount my "dash cam" angled back so I could use its lcd as a side view mirror. some nitwit ran into my trailer so I had to pack as much into the car as possible. I figure I had 1000 pounds of stuff in the car EASY plus my 455 pounds at the time. it was my best MPG segment too. 400+ miles 70.22 mpg I have also done 1200 pounds of people and stuff IN the car plus a 500 pounds lawn tractor on the trailer. handled it just fine. when I strapped a jetski to the trailer (gutted) it got a wee fishy above 55 so I kept it at 45 to be safe. |

Passengers: When I, my wife, and 3 of our friends loaded up all of our stuff for camping and drove about an hour an a half through the Texas hill county. Definitely had a few 2nd-3rd gear hills on the freeway and 5 people in a 4 person car was a little interesting. Cargo, interior: it'd either be when I hauled home a load of bricks to build a bunch of planters in my backyard (just over 200 bricks @ about 8lbs a brick + mortar) or every year when I pick up a load of green wood off the side of the road in preparation for winter (A hatchback can fit almost exactly a quarter cord) Cargo, overall: A dozen 12ft roofing pieces on the back on the trailer while the cab was loaded up with other assorted odds and ends. Concrete blocks were for counterbalance to keep the tongue weight up. ![]() Or 30 pieces of redwood with a dozen 8ft roofing pieces. Harbor freight makes one hell of a $140 trailer...

I just hauled a king sized mattress in the hatch of my 3/5. Lots of extra room to my surprise. |
