As it got colder my alternator delveloped the famous geo squeal. At first it was only once every few days, then it was every day, now its every time I shut the car off and turn it back on. So I thought i'd replace the belt right and tighten it up right? Well I have a G13BB engine so the alternator is blocked by EVERY possible wire/hose/tube/chunk of metal you can imagine. You just cant get to the fu<%ing thing! Tried every extension and finally when I got ahold of it, NO ROOM TO TURN IT :banghead
How do I get to it?

I have a G10 in my car but using a ratcheting wrench is a big help for me on many things. I tightened up the alternator just yesterday and used a 12mm ratcheting wrench. I don't know if this would help you since I am not familiar with the G13 setup but you might consider these. I got a basic metric set at Harbor Freight for under $20 on sale and have been happy.

in from the back to loosen the top alt bolt.

:ermm: On my G10 you go in on the other side. No extension needed.

does noone crawl under their car anymore? removing the alternator on a 1.0 is hella easy. getting it out of the engine bay after it is loosened is the hard part.

as for adjusting it on a 1.3, first undo all the wiring, hoses, and engines mounts and unbolt the engine from the tranny, then replace the 1.3 with a 1.0, problem solved.

So is this fixed by replacing the alt?

if there is a "squeel" 9 times out of 10 its just a loose or
worn out belt.. no need to replace the alternator.
you loosen the bolts.. set the proper tension on the belt
and tighten up the bolts. If the alternator bearing is bad,
that would warrant alternator replacement.

One of the tricks I use even though I have a good number of tools and extensions and such is I use a cheap very small cresant wrench. I can get into tight spots with it that a normal wrench or socet can't touch. If I had a 4 banger I could tell you--- all mine are 3s.

Yes yes, if it sweals, maybe okay, just tighten the snot out of it(Don't break or bend anything) and maybe add some belt grip.
