When I bought my home my yard had bermuda grass as well as just about every weed known to man. I killed the weeds and had a pretty fair bermuda yard but weeds always seemed to grew easily in the bermuda. Got tired of constantly treating the weeds. I sprayed roundup on the whole yard, killed everything. Rented a sod cutter and cut the grass and weeds out. Tilled up the yard and bought three or four pallets of zoisa grass and resodded the whole yard. I have been well pleased. If you do not own your property and intend to stay there its not worth the cost. Zosia provides a nice lawn and weeds do not seem to penetrate and grow up thru it near as bad as bermuda. Any yard requires constant maintaining if you want a golf course style lawn. |

Well ,its not as easy as one thinks. Ive had SOD die. It seems the grass seeds are picky about how they will come up and when, so my only advise is to just litter the yard in seed and use a variety as some grass likes winter, spring, fall and summer. Then you got grass for shady areas. Short of buying a few 100lbs in seed my next step is astro turf. Of course my yard was of that from a foreclosured home and it was covered in 3 ft of leaves. I think the previous owners ruined the ground. At least the trees look better. They seems to love lime and ferterlizer. within 3 days of covering hte yard they all popped into bloom and leafed right out. A second coat later in the year further this behavior.

I noticed ruts in the grass. Try changing up the pattern every week. Horizontal, vertical, both diag., and round in circles Plant grass in fall. Test soil. Pull weeds out asap. Only cut 1/3 or less each time you now. And a lot more crap. Too much work IMO.

For me I thought it was easy. I was gonna hire one of those turf companys like trugreen. That way if they fail, I can dispute the cred card charges. My mother said no and it was easy to grow grass, just do x,y,z and get a soil test. Well, it isnt that easy. Soil test said we needed lots of lime and had too much organic matter in the yard.

The yard is bare. No trash either. Thinking of burning it.

My grammy used to throw all her coffee grounds out onto the lawn. Then she would grind up orange peels and throw the powdered mass evenly onto the lawn. Thought she was nuts until I got the house, the bermuda grass is as lush and green as a forest. Thick to boot. Thanks grammy

Whenever I get my own house, I'm thinking raised planter boxes. My aunt and grandma both have a bunch. They're awesome. They use them for food.

she lives in Washington State--boxes will never get dry--mouldy maybe, or mushroom infested, but never dry.
