How much do you think minimum wage should increase? Why?

Obviously a 0% vote means you think it should stay the same.

Minimum wages do not work. in theory our pay should be GOING DOWN as we automate and increase efficiency. since these things should be LOWERING costs.

and THEY ARE lowering costs. the problem is we keep pay high as we tax more and more. most people pay over 40% of their earnings in direct taxation not even counting indirect taxation.

raise the minimum wage just makes it worse (and so would lowering it) businesses would simply reduce hours reduce benefits and or reduce employment making the wage problem even worse.

but if you lowered wages they would KEEP the gains from this and not pass it on hiring more and government will not reduce taxation.

the solution is to remove corruption from the system. that's not gonna happen anytime soon if at all.

As a person that will probably only be offered minimum wage jobs, I want it to be higher.

As a person that has a small grasp of how businesses operate, I don't want the minimum wage to increase.

The businesses will make up for the difference somehow.

and most people don't pay more than 40% in "direct taxation"

Minimum wage increases hurt everyone. When it increases the price of your groceries increase and other goods and far outway the small amount of minimum wage increase recieved. Not to mention those that make more than minimum wage see no increase in their salary but notice the increase in the cost of goods just the same.

State minimum wage in Washington is $9.19. Yes, that is right...nine dollars and nineteen cents.

It is either the highest or second-highest in the country, and it is high enough here.... :thumb

It scares me that it is this high. I am just waiting for my employer to use the "tipped employees" loophole and cut my pay dramatically. :scared

Why go to school and get more training? Just drop out and get a guarantee minimum wage or Davis Bacon wage on a fed job. I voted 0.

Obama proposed raising the national minimum wage to $9. Washington state passed a state law a while back that AUTOMATICALLY raises minimum wage 3% or so EACH YEAR. last three years Washington state businesses have been laying off workers at a great rate.

Now ObamaCare comes along. businesses in this state are laying off all but the VERY CORE of their workers and hiring 'part time' workers so they dont have to pay overtime, health care and a myraid of other things.

paying a high school kid to sweep the floors 9 bucks an hour and \giving him health care pushes the cost to hire the 'sweeper' to about 16 bucks an hour. business would go broke.

the result that is quite clear (and instantly clear) to the business patron is that there is long waits for assistance in ALL stores in the state. stores that a person has used for the past 35 years are closed and it goes on and on.

Minimum wage should not be a wage that you can live on, IMO. It's the minimum. It should be enough for a teenager to get started, but not enough to exist on. If you want a wage you can survive on, you should have to earn it, instead of having the minimum wage increase by $1.75 an hour to further reward your mediocrity. I voted "0" because there was no option to knock it back down to $1.

I'm betting if minimum wage goes up by $1.75, my pay will go up by nothing. But as other have mentioned, I will get to pay more for stuff anyway.

This is exactly what drives jobs out of the country. Big government idiots who think they can wave a magic wand and make everything better. This will cause layoffs just like the health care foolishness .

minimum wage......sorry, but if you are a single person with no kids, you should easily be able to live on the current minimum wage.

40x8 = 320x4 = 1280......a whole lot more than I am making. right now.

Instead of an increase, how about a class that you pay for (small fee) that teaches you how to manage your money? Most people have a spending problem

I didn't see an option for - 100%. Let the market dictate wages.
