Shit, even the tire shops and jiffy lube can't handle airing tires properly. I just took my car in to les schwab to get a tire fixed and they didn't fixed it because it was worn almost to the wear bars. When I got it home I checked the tire pressures of all the tires and hey were all 40 psi! Idiots. The sticker in the door says 30 front 29 rear (subaru). Yesterday my gf tells me there's a light on in her jeep after getting her oil changed. Its the tire sensor light so I checked her tires. 37 on 3 27 on one. On the list of things hey checked was tire pressures! Sticker says 33 on all four. Idiots! |

Utopia haha. Mankind will wipe themselves off the face of this earth before we ever reach utopia. Or at least kill off 95% of the population. |

I guess it depends on the angle or reason the geo is better than a prius. Typically the arguement starts out with just mpg, then goes to maintenance, then impact on environment in construction vs disposal, then purchase price used vs new, then hp or 0 to 60, then the SMUGness of the drivers, then the upkeep bythe owner. No offense, but there are some shitty owners of geos otherwise yall would have all teh rust damage and repairs to make, like in my case too. I think the most ironic part of this is that the conversation is on a tundra forum. Til my tranny started acting up I didnt mine buying 30 gallons of gas a week for my tacoma since it had no payment and low miles. |

Me too which is why I love the episode of top gear where they shoot one up with a mounted 50 cal. And they're always hating on the prius every chance they get. They also talk about how it pollutes more than say a ford excursion if you account for the manufacturing pollution and the disposal of the batterys and he fact that the parts for the car are made in several different countries and shipped to where its assembled polluting even more. |

My electric metro makes zero emissions, but this is a side effect. I don't really give a shit about the environment. I don't know where my lithium will end up in ten years, but I sure like no more oil or antifreeze changes and getting way over 100 eMPG. The 110 lbs of torque in a metro is a blast too. Funnest car I have ever driven. I have a twisty mountain road that I like to drive fast on, and when I come up on a prius, I feel like the guys on the sport bikes. Same problem on the freeway where these prius owners want to go 55 in the left lane. I suppose converting a metro into an electric hotrod is pretty expensive, but it costs less than a prius, gets twice the mpg, and is way funner to drive. |

What's your range and how long to charge it? |

All depends on how I drive it, but 100 miles at 55 mph and it goes down from there when you drive like an asshole, which I do. I like going 90 mph and tailgating in the fast lane, and I get a kick out of smokin hondas at redlights, so I don't get the full 100 miles, but I still get twice the prius mpg... charging is 8 hours+ with 110 volts, but 2.5 hours with 220 volt cord. |

so realistically. how much would it cost start to finish to make another of your EV metro's if I already have the metro ? realistically how many miles can you expect from that batter pack before the range drops below 80miles ? I doubt I could get 10 years out of it as that would be 400,000 miles. Edited by nerys, Feb 17 2013, 10:47 PM.

I don't know enough about the longevity of lithium yet, only what is predicted. To convert a metro, your budget can be anywhere from 3k to over 100k. Kinda like building a custom motorcycle or musclecar. A motor and controller combo like the one I keep bragging about is around 4k, as well as the charger that I use. You don't need the same charger, I just like the one I use because of its ability to use 110 or 220, and the knob and display that I can use to adjust the amps draw from the wall. It is not cool to have your amps draw set at 40 amps, and then stop by your buddys house and plug into his 15 amp extension cord. With the knob, I can turn it down to 12 or 13 amps and not wear out my welcome. Batteries are what really hurts the build budget. |
