This week I heard about the Dept. of Homeland Security has let a contract for 1.6 billion rounds of hollow point ammunition. It is spread out over most of the large ammo manufacturers and stipulates that when the govt. calls for say 50,000,000 round then the mfgs. must work 100% towards filling the order before they can make any ammo for the retail market. That means that you and I are SOL if we're looking for ammo. To give you an idea of how much that is, during the Iraq war the military only used 70,000,000 rounds per year. This appears to be one way the govt. is going to attack gun owners. By simply buying up a major portion of the ammo produced in the USA they can keep it out of our hands. At the same time the govt. is making it harder for retailers to import ammo from foreign suppliers. The ammo shortage will simply be blamed on those "right-wing conservative gun toting knuckle draggers" who are "hoarding" all the ammo from the shelves at Walmart. Walmart's supply of ammo coming into the store has slowed to a trickle. It is just not coming into the stores in any major quantities. My local store's ammo shelves was 90% empty. Not an exaggeration. Think about how smart this is for the politicians, they don't have go on the record and vote on some 250% sales tax to slow down ammo sales. They don't have to attack the 2nd amendment. There simply won't be any ammo to buy. As the ammo shelves remain empty over time, then future gun purchases by prospective new gun owners just won't occur. Who is going to buy their first gun if they can't buy any ammo? Gun mfgs. will slow down production. DHS is just one dept. of the federal govt. What if other agencies ramp up ammo purchases as well? Gun control is here folks, and it's not even going to be voted on!!

Have you thought about companies that only make hardcast bullets? But that only helps if you're a reloader. |

I almost think buying a real oddball round would make more sense than the popular ones. I will be buying my first gun here soon, and I'm looking for like a strange round that, hopefully, won't be out of stock every time I turn around to buy it.

Keep in mind, those odd ball rounds are usually expensive, so your not gaining much, other than you might find them. |

Money isn't an issue. Let me explain, I'm not looking at stockpiling the oddball rounds. I want the oddball for the next couple of months/years, until ammo prices come down. If they don't...well, i'll cross that bridge when I get there. |

If you think about it there is a finite supply of brass, lead, copper, etc on the market at any one time. If the ammo makers are supplying a limited amount of ammo to the retail market they will probably make the more popular rounds and file13 the oddball rounds. I've got a .38 Special and a .357 Magnum. You can shoot the .38 special round in the .357 mag. Yesterday I bought several boxes of .38sp. but did not find any .357mag.

If that's the case, go find the ammo that you want, and then go buy the gun.

My neighbor reloads. He told me that is is almost impossible to find power because it is just not being manufactured. Guess the gov't is stockpiling black power, too. Hoarding guns and ammo does not help fix the government. Look at the schlub in Alabama who was in his hidy-hole with a five year old kid. The government got him! Look at the nut job in California who killed some cops and then hunkered down in a log cabin. The government got him. Both men had lots of guns and ammo. Didn't help them one bit. Look at what the government did at Ruby Ridge, Waco, and to Tim McVey. The government just steamrolled those folks, and they tried to fight back! One man going agains the government is a losing proposition. And if the government takes away all of the bullets then many men with no bullets is a losing position. Our government does not want to lose its power to a bunch of car mechanics, farmers, house wives, plumbers, or any other average citizens. They want the power to control everybody because that is what they think is how things should be done. The government has no concept of individual liberty. Just oppression via tightening of gun rules, higher taxes, and theft of everybodies rights. Get ready for the ride, folks. It won't be pretty. |

Is there anyway that the gun mfgs are in on this too? Shit, they will be getting the benefit of this. It will drive up the price so they will make even more. Looks like a benefit to the gun mfgs too..... |
