Anyone know if Suzuki and/or Pontiac had an equivalent to the lower horsepower "detuned" XFI motor? |

Why would you think Pontiac ever made a Suzuki engine? Ahh, Pontiac Firefly, right? Nope, Gm just imported the Jap engines. They were never manufactured in North America. Correct me if I wrong. |

I didn't make any mention of who "made" the engine. I'm asking if all three companies that used the 3 cylinder 1.0 litre engine (in the Swift, Firefly and Metro) had a "detuned" version equivalent to the Metro Xfi.

The geo metro xfi had a "special" engine build expressly for the purpose of superior mpg. All that was in it was a different cam and one less ring. Geo/Pontiac/Suzuki G10 engines are all the same, but the xfi is a tad different. You could take an xfi, pull the pistons and throw in 3 grooved pistons, slap in a regular cam and then have a standard G10 engine. Hope this helps |

As far as I know, there was no Firefly version of the xfi. The Sprint ER, prior to 89, and the Metro base in 89 were the predecessor to the xfi. The Swift only had the 3 cyl. for one year, I think 93, and that was Canada only. |
