What would you do with an extra $1000?

Simple question. Lets say you are given $1000 (as a gift, or bonus or anything). What would you do with it?

I would maybe put a few hundred in my geo and save the rest to pay for summer classes....

or I would put the rest towards my rent and get ahead by several months....

Well if it were a 1000 that just didnt matter, I would host Geos on the river in Memphis for a weekend. All day, saturday and sunday. Try to find a large river vessel to host our party for a nightly cruise on the river with dinner and drinks. And try to find accomodations for my guest to stay Saturday night for free. For about 3000, we would have a major blast. If I had enough left over, I would go get the hand vaccum pump from harbor freight I seem to always find a need for. I been pondering how to put something together anyway. I am trying to think big and a whole weekend.

Nothing.

I'd put it away with the rest of my money. My dad just got a settlement a few months ago from the Federal government over exposure to Agent Orange when he was in Vietnam during 1969-1970.

Dad, being literally generous to a fault, gave me, my brother, and my sister each $5000.

It is still in my safe. I didn't even need it. I have everything I need, and I am grateful. :cheers

I rebuilt my geo engine and bought tools... It's stupid how fast 1,000$ disappears...

Grr

I would pay off 2 credit cards so I had 2 less bills to pay each month. which would then permit me to make large payments to another card and pay it off faster.

man $1000 would make a huge difference to me :-)

Would buy silver.
Silver's been low for a while. Is it expected to go up? I think the stock market has done better this past year than silver.

Me? Take a road trip with the wife and daughter, rest in the bank to pay for riding lessons.

Dave ramsey has convinced me that buying metals is a foolish thing to do. He makes a good point that the value of metals and commodities are fear and demand driven and produce no revenue. He also said prior to the last decade gold has a bad track record. I would do as he suggests and add that money to my emergency fund (3-6 months worth of expenses saved up in cash) and begin aggressively paying off my debt which is $3k on a credit card. Then save money for downpayment on a home and buy a home. I'm done borrowing money. With the exception of a mortgage. If you live by the motto "if you can finance it you can afford it", as I once heard a coworker say you are doomed to live your life in debt struggling to pay bills paycheck to paycheck padding other peoples wallets. I'm ready to change my life.
