I can't wait to put gas in my truck and fill up this big block jet boat all summer long... :scared

Easy fix. 3cyl in the car; 3cyl in the boat. Works for me!
Last time I took the boat out, I ran ALL day on 6 gals! :banana

I am the one on the left.

My husand and I want to pick up an old school jet ski and hook it up to a spare geo motor that I am going to have, and make it a two seater 10 ft jet. will paint to match the geo to the boat. I can't wait.

@48mpg my Geo costs me $21 as of Friday to make my weekly commute. My tundra gets 18 if I drive it real nice and nearly tripling that number in the process. The Geo has been a godsend since a week after buying it I got a heck of a job opportunity that whilst I make less money my standard of living improved 1000% its just that my commute distance over doubled. Before I got the metro I had a 28mpg tracker it saved some money over the tundra but nothing like the metro does.

Even after only a few weeks with the metro I feel like I'm just wasting money driving the truck anywhere. All it does is sit there unless I tow my boat or camper or go to the shooting range (a mile from home). I'm about to pay the truck off and I just can't justify having that much capital tied up in a vehicle I use so little. What I'll probably do is trade the tundra in on an inexpensive NEW or late model metro surrogate (with AC) and come away with a very small payment. Then I'll sell the Geo or trade an AR15 for a van from the 90's to handle my outdoorsy needs.

Memphis metro

If they dont hurry up and make another good gas consumption car we are all going to be hurting when these metros are wore out and gone and have to go back to the gas hogs. Going down is nice but going up is bad when you been used to be down.

I think there are NEW cars that would get us most of what we get from our metri. You need to keep in mind that an older cars MPG rating was on a much more optimistic (and i think accurate for us) testing scale than new ones.

On anything with the "new rating" system I have no problem getting 3,4 sometimes even 5 more MPG than the EPA rating. Think of it like this our metros are rated on a scale based on US driving one. A new car is rated on a scale based on a teenagers or womans driving habits. The cars aren't as far apart as the numbers would indicate at face value

get a utility trailer and put a hitch on your family car.
cheap tags and no extra insurance for a utility trailer as well as no depreciation.

Thats what I did in anticipation of selling my Ranger---but my wife likes the Ranger so it sits in a shed and is only used about 500 miles a year, ( $1.50 a day costs between depreciation and insurance), and the trailer sits under a tree and is full of leaves, branches and small animal nests.
I keep telling myself,--wives are good. wives are good. wives are good

Did you read that the US will become a net exporter of fuel?

Already happened in 2011
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-02-29/u-s-was-net-oil-product-exporter-in-2011.html

It is easy to envisage export-ban supporters arguing it is unjust to sell domestic crude overseas while Americans pay high gasoline prices. But as that margin shows, the benefits of cheaper crude flow first to refiners. Since gasoline produced on the Gulf Coast can be sold anywhere, Americans must compete for it—that is, pay up. Changing that would actually require raising barriers to refined-product exports, protectionism that neither the world nor refiners would welcome.

econboxxxer I have access to 100's of different engine couples at work. I keep telling myself that one day I'm going to bring one of my old flywheels to work and find one that will bolt up. Once we have the coupler, it's all gravy!

The "family car" is a 2011 scion xb. I don't think its well suited to towing a 17" deep wide john boat or a converted to a camper horse trailer up into the back roads of the Ozark national forest.

Besides we want to always keep three road worthy vehicles around in case one hoes down. A $1500 van can sit for weeks only consuming $23 a month in tags and insurance

I am the one on the left.

I can burn through 40 gals of gas in a day. I took my boat to Lake Powell last year, and from Halls crossing to Rainbow bridge is about 60 gallons to go there and back. To take a tour boat from Halls to rainbow bridge is about 300/per person. (family of 4 is 1200.00 round trip). Gas on the lake is 5.00-6.00/gal
so- $300-$400 to drive yourself in your own boat- if you can go that far. I had to take 10 extra gallons of gas, or I wouldn't have made it. Stopped and refuelled at dangling rope, made sure to fill my gas cans and barely beat the light. Saw bass boils on the return trip, but I was trying to beat the sun. Its no fun trying to cross the lake in the dark.
