Are ebay rebuild kits any good?

I am starting the plan to rebuild my 92 xFi egnine. I plan to go with the 3 ring pistons and checked ebay and found several kits that seem to have everything I would need (except a 3tech head/cam). Are these fine for the money? I want to keep my cost reasonable but am willing to spend a little extra to make sure it is done right.

First kit (my first choice)

Me second choice

Look up Geo Glenn in members search then click on his signature links that will bring you in right direction of what to buy for your project and why not that route.

Per Glenn, no.

Many 'new' aftermarket parts measure up to be already worn out as far as clearances go. Glenn has a thread on what the good stuff is.

Quite a few people (including myself) have used partsdinosaur.com for rebuild parts.

I have used the first kit, And that is a great buy! All I did was toss out the head gasket, and use the high performance one, other than that I think the parts are just as good as geo glenss list, except for the bearings, You really want to measure the bearings. The only difference with Geo glenns list is that you are going to pay a lot more for your rebuild!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have over 20,000 miles on my geo with the rebuild kit from ebay and it has 190psi across all three, and runs like a champ!

Thanks everyone. I will check out Geo Glen's list and put my parts list together, then compare them. If it is twice as much, I would probably risk the cheaper route, but if the cost diference is reasonable, I will use his list.

I have used rockauto.com quite a bit and have been happy with their prices, shipping, and service. I haven't used partsdinosaur yet but this may be the first.

Ebay is not a brand, there is no "The Ebay Kit". I can sit down with a scissor and a pile of cereal boxes and have a kit on Ebay by tonight.

Good point, Woodie. Really, those kits are generic, throw togethers IMHO. But without a brand or kit name, they, by default, turn into "ebay kits".

Don't do it!
I bought a kit.
I used the kit.
I wish I had taken longer and spent a little more to get higher quality parts that were actually the right part.
