So, I was checking the oil before I was going take the vert to the mechanic that is going to do the work, and I noticed the coolant resevoir to be completely empty. When I opened the radiator cap, the radiator was completely full. Any thoughts on this, or what I should check? I don't want to drive it without enough coolant. |

Not Really All That Smart

You have to be losing it somewhere. First thing to do if there are no obvious signs of a leak is to fill it up and measure how much you're losing and how quickly. Top it off, take it for a spin and come back home. With the motor running, pop the hood and check for a mist or some drippage, which would probably indicate a failing hose. If you're lucky, it's just that. Any white goo in your oil? Honestly, you should smell it too... When is the last time you checked the overflow level? |

I'm bringing it to a guy to do the piston rings and hone the cylinders. Its already smoking and burning oil. Do you think that could contribute to loss of coolant? |

I hadn't checked the coolant because I replaced the head and put new coolant in it so I assumed it was good to go. What does burning coolant smell like? |

unless you "burped" the system you probably ended up low on coolant from the time of the head rebuild.--Dont know "burping"? read this: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=ie7&q=geometroforum+burp+coolant&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7ACEW "burnt coolant" produces white smoke "burnt oil" produces blue smoke "too much gas" produces black smoke Edited by Old Man, Mar 6 2013, 03:37 PM.
