Brief story first: Tried to buy a Tracker on eBay. Pulled out a loan to do it. Make my deposit and contact the seller who says, "I'm real sorry, man. I didn't put this is the post, but sometimes you'll be driving along going a constant speed and the speedometer will just take off on you and run up a lot faster than you're really going. Like at 60, it could run up as high as 80." He then offered to refund my money. Question one: Never heard of that one...is it an easy fix? I told him I need to do some research and get back to him. Then 20 minutes later, he called me back and said, "Another thing I didn't post was that the check engine light is on. I just got it back from the dealer...I told them to do whatever they needed to do to fix it. And man, they told me that there ain't nothing wrong with the thing, but they can't make the light go off. So I just thought you should know that too. You can back out, but please don't leave any negative feedback." I then asked for a refund. Question two: Is that even possible? Can there truly be nothing wrong and have a check engine light be on and stay on...or are they incompetent? Edited by texan821, Mar 7 2013, 02:06 AM.

I guess I would ask to see the receipt from the dealership if you are still interested...sounds like an electrical/instrument cluster problem...IMO... |

Don't feel any obligation to keep this vehicle. Get your money back and call yourself lucky. |

The only obligation I feel is that I already pulled out a loan that I've gotta pay back. I had this plan to cut my total debt and my monthly car payments in half while trading a lien for a clean title and still sticking with a 4x4. It was going to be perfect, but now I've increased me debt and montly payments and still have a gas guzzling 2nd vehicle with a lien. It all fell apart and I don't want to deal with the situation I'm in. That's it, really...not feeling obligated to the seller one bit. Good riddance to that guy. Btw geoguyxfi, geogonfa suggested the problem with the Tracker could be something electrical in the dash. Might wanna give that a shot? I dunno, just passing it along to ya. |

i do not think the speedo prob is electric. the speedo is a direct connect from the gearbox to the needle via a cable. i would suspect the nylon gears inside the box, or if you are lucky it could be a freyed cable. i had a speedo cable frey on my 57 chev. it would "twist up" one direction, then when tight, it would spin backwards, untill tight, then spin out the other direction. then backwards, then forward, till it finally broke. have you pulled a code for the CEL? |
