No-fire with new fuel injector??; Installed rebuilt injector, motor won't start.

So I replaced the injector in my '97 3/5 with a rebuilt one from Rock Auto, and in the process hydro-locked the motor with gasoline, set the front of the car on fire, and threw out my back. Do not work with gasoline and a spark 20 minutes after you get out of a dentist's chair. :smackface Now the car won't start. I crank, crank, crank...nothing.

Put the old injector back in and it fires right up.

Do I need to crank more to bleed the air out of the new injector? Is there any way to "prime" it? At first I thought I just got a bad injector, but I put it on a multimeter and it has the same resistance value as the old one does. Put 12v to it for a few tenths of a second and it does the same thing as the old one does...click, click, click.

Any thoughts before I send it back? :hmm

Just pour a tiny bit of gas in the top of the throttle body and see if it will hit and finally catch by doing so.

A bit of gas will go down into the intake when I change the injector from new to old and back. Keep the injector out too long and you will hydro-lock the motor because of this, BTW. I recommend clamping or removing the fuel hose in case anyone else reads this.

I went back and forth with the old and new injectors, and the motor will fire off and run with the new injector for a few seconds until the gas that leaked down burns off...then it dies.

It will crank, and crank, and crank. I have cranked it for 10 seconds 3-4 times with no results.

I will try a bit more fuel and see if it lights. Another thing I noticed is the contact posts for the new injector are a hair thinner than the ones for the old injector. I will try tweaking the contacts to see if that helps. Thanks!

You should always relieve the fuel pressure before servicing any part of the fuel system such as replacing the fuel injector.

I pull the fuel pump relay and run the engine until it dies. The fuel does not come out in a gush when I pull the injector, but it is a steady trickle until the injector is put back in.

A few minutes of this and it is hydro-lock city. Clamping the fuel hose seems to do the trick. Hope it is just a contact issue. Will try again in the next few days.

It sounds like a bad fuel injector.

Call Rock Auto. Chances are they will send you a new one without having to send the one you have back.

I've changed several fuel injectors. The engine starts right away.
