The audio clip definitely sounds like a broken piston skirt.

Remove the oil pan to investigate.

And, pictures of the carnage, please?

Maybe but would a broken piston skirt cause the engine to literally puke oil out the blowby.

No. Inattention to clearances and limits during engine overhaul would, though.

Glen, NO IT DOESN"T SOUND LIKE A BROKEN PISTON SKIRT!!

It sounds like a sewing machine. :D

Where was the microphone placed when recording the sound? Over the valve cover, in front of the engine, beside the TB, underneath the oil pan?? That ticking noise sounded very loud. Was it that loud in person?

Many thanks to 1.0smallblock for getting the sound clip posted. ^o)

I only spent a half hour on it today. 15 min standing there staring it down. And 15 draining fluids and checking compression. Left to right, 20(yes20),230,230. Dry tested. Oil pan is coming off tomorrow.

Holy *}{%^}}%#**. 20? :-( maybe the pistons broke in half or something.... :-S. is it the one that had the broken bolts above it before that's at 20? Sorry sucks but happens at least you can hopefully fix it fairly cheaply.

Broken piston. And no rod bearing. Rod was that sound in clip. Piston probably broke from rod slamming on the crank causing piston to break.
