Greetings:

Ok so I got some P/N for shifter bushings for a 96 Suzuki Swift. I tried getting bushings from Chevrolet but they are no longer being made, and nobody has them.

The guy from Suzuki said that the 3 cyl Geo, can be different from the swift.

My question is has anybody ever tried the bushings from Suzuki? Do they work? Will they fit?

These bushings are the ones on the very bottom of the shifter.

Just wondering before I spend money and find out they will not work.

Any ideas?

TIA
Clay

Why would you put a zert fitting on a part that will get oiled continually from a notoriously leaky tranny and engine (not yours specifically, just any metro in general)?

the idea is to not leak everywhere...
but I see that is kind of a tall order for my car at least.

I tried GM for the factory replacements and they said no longer available. Whenever we see shift linkage at the junkyard that is intact, we gather them up!

The self oiling is good for rust prevention too, but the smell on hot days put me off. I only have a CV boot leak, which does nothing for the shift bushing.

My shifter started rattling at stop lights, etc, even tho it idles pretty smooth. As well as a 3 cyl can be smooth. Lol Anyways, checked it out & this bottom linkage was very loose. Picked up the bronze bushing from Lowes & a lawn mower wheel bolt from the local lawn mower shop. Drilled one side of the linkage to 1/2 in & the other side to 3/8 to accommodate the new bolt. Greased it up & bolted it all together. Works great. Didn't do the grease fitting tho. Excellant design & fix here. Total parts cost, under $5.00. About 30 min repair.
