SOLVED: Engine miss problem in damp or frosty weather...; It was the cap and rotor, even though they were basically new.

I ended up swapping my basically new cap and rotor for a crap set from one of my parts engines as an experiment today when my car started missing in damp conditions once again. The old set I used looked like hell and was all eroded so I figured the one that was on the car couldn't be that bad. Well, the car fired up and ran great on the nasty looking parts. I drove it to Autozone and exchanged the bad parts for new and the problem seems solved for now.

I don't understand how the cap could have no apparent defects and cause this type of behavior. The one I returned looked like new but something was obviously not quite right.

I had also swapped plugs earlier to the NGK copper that they spec for these cars at AutoZone. The car is running much better and starts right up without missing like it was before.

You've got to start shopping at NAPA.

I have heard that from everyone.... Unfortunately NAPA involves driving to another town as we don't have one here. We have AutoZone and O'Reilly but no NAPA or Advance which I know some also prefer.

At least the recent plug wire purchase was the O'Reilly brand if that helps....

Just found a NAPA in St. James, MO which is quite close. This is either new or I have never noticed it before.
