So I recently changed my oil and had my Water pump and belts replaced, but now my acceleration is absolutely terrible and so is my gas mileage. While driving the car isn't shifting as well as it once did, and the engine just completely cut off when I was stopped at a red light, it didn't stall, it just stopped. I had a diagnostic done at pep boys and they said my cat was bad and my EGR system needed cleaning, but would that be the cause of the poor acceleration/fuel economy? They want to charge me ~$1,100 to replace the cat and the oxygen sensor(s). |

Do not pay that kind of money to anyone! Did they replace the timing belt? If your problem started after installing belts then I highly do not think your converter is the problem. Do not be so quick to replace it without knowing for sure it needs replaced. |

I don't plan on it. looking at the estimate the pricing is outrageous, Up wards of $300 for the cat, and nearly $200 for the o2 sensors alone. A quick search at autozone and I found the same parts at a much lower price, and I know my mechanic would charge me much less in labor to replace them. I don't believe so, they replaced the belt that turns the water pump, alternator, etc. I have a bad compressor, so he didn't bother replacing the AC belt. |

They got your timing belt off a tooth when they put it back together. You have a Service Engine Soon light that will illuminate when it senses a problem. Those problems include the EGR system and the catalytic converter system. No light = no problem. |

Just replacing your other belts besides your timing belt should not have had any effect on the way your car is running. They might have knocked off your map sensor hose when they did it. Get the codes rescanned and post all the numbers here. |

the service engine light is on, but would the cat have ANYTHING to do with my acceleration? I'd assume not due to the fact that it only has to do with the emission system. The codes I have are P0400 (had it before, cleaned the EGR and it went away, just cleaned the EGR today, haven't scanned it again) And I'm getting a p0420. If it were restricted it would. Loss of power. It happens but not likely your problem. |

Dude in order to replace the water pump they had to mess with your timing belt. Your timing is off a tooth Trust the mullet man. Edited by wildhair, Mar 13 2013, 09:44 PM.

You do not have too http://geometroforum.com/single/?p=597774&t=4464045. But your probably right. Who ever did it might have removed it. I think your right. This is why I asked if they replaced the timing belt. Its been so long since I did a waterpump I forgot about that. This is likely your issue. |
