Idle issue and guzzling oil

Hello everyone, great forum.

1st off I have a 92, 1.0L, 3cyl, automatic. I had the head replaced over a year ago and now it's using oil like crazy. Not a smoke screen or anything out of the back but black stuff on the rear of the car, and black on the garage floor from when it starts. Also when I slow to a stop it idles so low that the oil light will come on unless I have my foot on the gas a bit. I've read some threads here on the forum and was just wanting to make sure I'm thinking right.

The first thing that it sounds like it could be is the oil check valve is either out or was never put back in when the head was replaced. Would this have anything to do with the idle though? It didn't idle like this when the head was replaced and it ran very well for several months. Any suggestions on what else to check?

Very common problem. The nice fresh head is pulling oil past the worn out rings. The burning oil will burn the valves quickly and then you'll have no choice but doing a proper rebuild.

Ah, thanks. I don't think I'm going to put any more money into this thing and I don't know enough to do it myself. I'd do more harm than good.
