Hello again, I took my car to get inspected and apparently there is a random mis-fire and the oxygen sensor is preventing me from passing. I don't know a particular amount about cars, but I'm a fast learner, was wondering if someone had any ideas what its about ? The car is starting very poorly from time to time. It's not the battery or the starter, the engine is having a lot of trouble now kicking start. Once it starts it runs fine, and after it runs for a bit I can turn it on and off without a problem. I'm thinking the mis-fire has to do with spark plugs. Let me know what you think. Thanks. |

Do compression test first maybe a burnt valve. Then change Pcv valve and check for vacuum leaks. Then new plugs, wires, cap, rotor... Then you could check fuel pressure ... That's my .02$ |

Pull the spark plugs and see what they look like. That can tell you a lot as well. Heres the how to on the compression test. http://geometroforum.com/topic/2574993/1/ |

I hope you're making some progress with your issue. I have had my Metro for 12 years and during that time have tried lots of things to fix the rough idle and occasional miss. It had over 100K miles on it when I bought it and had been neglected. I have even had mechanics tell me that a three-cylinder engine won't ever run smoothly, but I'm not the kind of person who gives up like that. Everything other owners have told you so far is right on the money. I have done all of those things over the years, including replacing the O2 sensor. I also ran many bottles of Lucas' Fuel Treatment through my car to help clean the fuel injectors. But I have to say the one thing I did that seemed to make the most difference was installing a set of Bosch Platinum plugs. I used to have to change my plugs fairly often, as they would be fouled. Especially #1, where I have always suspected I have a leaky fuel injector but haven't dissected it to find out. However, I put in a set of platinum plugs more than five years ago and when I took them out this past week to do a minor tune-up they all looked fine. The best thing about belonging to a forum like this is knowing all the things others' have tried. Hang in there. |

I had Bosch +4 platinum in three other Geos and saw marked improvements. I then had them in my current and it resulted in miss fire. Perhaps once in a while you get a bad plug no matter who you buy it from? I'm trying some spendy ass pulse plugs now and so far I honestly cannot tell a difference between the regulars and these, I saw more change with +4 in the past. A lot if people here have had miss fire from Bosch +4. I had a set I'd wires new from o Reilly before that caused misfire as well as a cap that was cracked new from o Reilly. I just don't shop there anymore..., |

Any changes you perceived from putting in whiz bang plugs were either imagined or because there was something lacking about your previous plugs. A plug is a plug, iridium and platinum will last longer, but no plug is going to change the way your car runs, unless something is wrong with it already. |

You say that the 02 sensor kept you from passing along with a miss fire. Is your check engine light on or is there any codes stored in the ECU. If you don't have a way to check codes you can go to Autozone or somewhere else and they will check them for free. |
