Horn Wiring; A QUESTION OF ACCESSIBILITY

Horn stopped working:

1. There is 12V at the horn
2. The ground wire (blue) from the steering wheel to the fuse box is good
3. The ground from the horn (blue) is good all the way to where it enters the cabin is good.
4. between entrance to cabin and under dash, hard to access

Conclusion.

Wiring is damaged between Fuse box and cabin exterior. Loom is somewhere under dash.

Who has experience in getting to the loom wiring? Or am i just better off splicing in a new piece of wiring.

My thought is, if the ground wire (blue) is broken somewhere under the dash, why did it happen when the wire should be wrapped and cozy. Did rats eat the wire? and if so did they eat anything else? is there other damage to the loom I cannot see.?

Do I have to take apart the dash? Scale of difficulty? How much time? Is there a nice tutorial?

Oh, boy. Wiring. :news

I estimate wiring jobs at one hour per wire.

Then add multiplication factors.

A wire going through the firewall, that's in a taped bundle is going to take 4 hours for the first wire, and another hour for each wire going the same way.

Unless you're really wanting to keep the appearance OEM fresh, I would recommend roughly running a wire from A to B to see if it solves your problem. If it does, make the installation neat, wrap it, and call it a day. It shouldn't take more than an hour to fix it with a bypass wire.

There may have been some rodent to the wiring, or corrosion damage in the crimped ends in the connectors.

Removing the passenger front seat and tossing some padding over the bump will make your under dash experience less unpleasant. Removing the dash is ideal, but not time effective.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery.

I found the wiring cut behind the left front fender. It seems the loom was chafing against the fender and cut the wiring to the horn. BEEP BEEP on the road again.
