Well that sucks I guess she'll be headed to the scrap yard in a year or 2...I hate the rust belt with a passion. Just thinking of watching my cars rot away makes me sick.
Christine (my first Metro) was 10 times worse than this car and it lasted 4 years without any rust prevention. We will see.

Except the engine in the pic is a BA. :D Good numbers though. :thumb
Nope, it's an early BB, the coils and wires are different from your, but it's the same engine in every other way.

Really? Hmm. All I see is a BA valve cover, and 4 wires. Can't really tell if it's got a distributor or not. Then again, there is an intake manifold, which means injectors (plural). Wow, must be a morphodite year. Thanks for that woodie, that's a new one on me. I've never seen a half and half like that.

the 98 models had a coil pack mounted on the end of the head with wires to the plugs. 99 and 2000 models used the coil on plug/ coil near plug coil packs. everything else on the control set was the same between the model years.

That explains why I've never seen one. I've laid eyes on every model year of metro in my life…except 98's. Why, who knows. I guess 98's aren't in my area much.

OK, I got this car all fixed up. The cat melted down and was rattling horribly. I could not take it anymore so I did the same exhaust mod I did with my 92..............

I love the mid-mount muffler setup on these cars and I am surprised more of you are not doing it..........

Hey! I even got a free sticker................

Posted Image

I got the knarly, aggressive, studded snow tires mounted and balanced and installed. I used the wheel covers from the 92 XFi.............

Since installing the 13" rims and tires I would have to say this car never rode better. The 15" rims that were on it have really low profile tires and they ride pretty hard. In my opinion, the car don't look bad at all with the 13" wheels. The car was lowered and the stance is perfect..............

I also oiled the hell out of the car :coffee

I love my new exhaust :rocker

The roads this morning were snow covered and icy. This car can out accelerate a 4X4 from a dead stop and safely travel 45-50 MPH without sliding :rocker

Sound clip for the exhaust? If more of us should be doing it, what difference do you see between the mid-mount and rear mount mufflers?

I am not sure how to explain it, but it changes everything! If you do not like the "Ricer" sound or the "BumbleBee" sound coming from your Metro and prefer a mellow exhaust tone that comes to life when accelerating, then the mid-mount turbo muffler is the way to go. These are 2 vids of my 92 with the mid-mount muffler setup............

Not only does it change the sound, but this leaves the exhaust exit on your car up to your imagination. The Metro with a stock muffler looks like shit from the rear with the muffler showing and if not mounted properly, you melt your bumper. With this setup, you can run a straight pipe with a tip, a dual exhaust setup like I did, or you can even add a resonator tip to make it even quieter if you do not like the "man music" coming from your car.

On the 92, I used a "Cherry Bomb" turbo muffler and on the 98 I used a "Thrush" turbo muffler. The Thrush turbo muffler is smaller in size and reversable to make installing a snap! I also noticed the Thrush muffler is a tad quieter then the Cherry Bomb. The only thing with the turbo mufflers is the minimum inlet/outlet size is 2" so if you chop out your resonator, you need to adapt it to the stock exhaust size.

I will get video of the 98 with this setup for you guys as soon as possible so you can decide for yourself. Even my wife commented on the exhaust and said it sounds way better than the bumblebee noise she gets from her stock setup. As soon as her car needs exhaust work, she wants the turbo muffler mod installed.

I will guarantee if any of you take your stock exhaust and replace the resonator with a turbo muffler and lose the stock muffler, you will notice the difference right away. Hopefully someone else tries this mod and reports their results.

Sorry, no video on the exhaust yet :stoner

This morning it was 21 degrees and everything covered in frost :cold

I went to start the car to go to work after it sat since Saturday and it would not start :scared

I tried it a few more times and still no go :banghead

I then tried it with the pedal to the floor and cranked it until the battery died :whistle

I had to drive member WobblyBob's van to work since he dropped it off for me to do a few things to it :drivin

When I got home it was 42 degrees and no rain, frost, or moisture and with a quick jumpstart, it fired right up but started missing. Scanned it and found P0303 cylinder #3 missfire came back :O

Cleared the codes and took it for a long ride to complete 2 full drive cycles and the light popped back on with #3 missfire :die

Since I got the car and tested compression a few times, #3 has always been borderline at 160, but this time #3 is reading 100 PSI now. After a few discussions with a friend he said the coil that runs #2 and #4 cylinder might be going bad and is sensitive to moisture and if #3 was weak, it failed to start.

Does this sound plausible :news

I made a video from start to now on this car. Please note the exhaust sound on the end is before the dual exhaust and turbo muffler upgrade. All videos I upload to YouTube or Facebook with copyrighted music are now being rejectedm so all my vids from now on will have royalty free music on them. Enjoy...........

Those chrome tips I put on the dual exhaust mod already had bad rust all over them and cleaning them with a scotchbrite pad every few days was getting old. I guess you get what you pay for with 10 dollar tips. We installed a Gibson dual exhaust on a 05 Ram Truck at the shop a year ago and the pipe behind the muffler rotted out. The customer got a complete new system under warranty and they told us to toss the old setup. I saved the chrome tips :deal

These are 3" chrome tips cut down and welded to the dual exhaust mod I performed earlier.........

Here is the old tips............
