Been over a year since an update. I have yet to do any repairs on this car since owning it. Cylinder #3 is dead and it's still running good on 3 out of 4 cylinders for all this time. I went to put the summer mag wheels on and noticed 2 bald tires. I just bought 4 brand new Toyo Extenza tires for the Magnum Metro and the next purchase will be a replacement engine and a clutch.

Replace the engine or rebuild? I ask because I ache for the G13BB in my car.

There are many 1.3L 16 valve engines in junkyards with low miles. I think it will be easier to just replace it. I gotta pull it to do the clutch anyway.

It's a mixed blessing....we have the cars and engines, but we've also got the rust. :doh

cb, that might be the only good thing about the rust belt. the bodies turn to dust before the drive trains are shot. ;)

mullet, what's the problem with the dead hole? the only problem i have ever had with a g13 was a valve face falling off the stem which punched hole through the piston crown and mangle the head. i made a run through a junk yard, snatched a piston out of a g13ba and took it's head, popped the stuff on my engine and ran the car another year before i sold it. the guy who bought it still drives it to work every day!

round here the engines just get warped or they catch on fire. Car looks good JM im impressed you were able to keep the car locked up all that time, be hard for me to not drive the nice car.

Here is a pic of the old tires. Rears were bald, but fronts were still fair, but they were too big at P205/50R15.............

Here are the new speed rated Toyo Extensa tires in the correct size of P195/50R15...............

Here is the car after a long deserved bath...........

what's the problem with the dead hole?
It's probably a broken ring or just wore out. I did a compression test about five years ago (150K miles) and 1, 2, and 4 were between 175 and 180, 3 was at 155. Ran well, got 40 mpg, and didn't make any noise, so I just put it out of my mind.

When I got the car it was still hitting on all4 for a month or so and a compression test revealed #3 was below 100. Still runsand drives and gets 40 MPG if I drive it nice.

Just lost cylinder #2 and #3 has been dead. I found a junkyard 1.3 with 80K on it for $400 and ordered a new clutch, plugs, wires, timing belt, cam/crank seals and more.

Will update soon.
