Hi everybody! So I understand what the code 15 is, but I have a few questions? It actually seems like the cooling system is plugged up? I took it to smog it the other day, popped the hood and the lower hose was swelling, then it popped. The vehicle is not running hot. I was wondering if those 2 small hoses that go to the manifold could be plugged inside the manifold. because it still has quite a bit of pressure. Has anyone seen this before? PO used some block sealer, I was thinking it sealed something else? I replaced the radiator, just because I had another one that was better. I'm going to go mess with it right now. we will see how it goes? I will be right back to check. |

I'd get that block sealer out of there as soon as possible. Give it a full flush including any auxiliary hoses (intake manifold and heater core) and check your thermostat to ensure it's still working properly. Good call on the new radiator... great investment for your car. You can boil it up on the stove and use a thermometer to ensure it pops open at roughly the right temperature. They can be had cheap if it needs replacement. |

So I took it in for another smog test. This time I took a couple of laps around the freeway, trying to make sure the CE light wasn't going to come back, then pulled into test center. I knew the idle was a bit high, so I told him to test with the headlights on. He had some trouble getting the test to start, then finally we got through the running part, when I looked over and seen the ce light was on. While he was busy I asked if I could shut it off, so I did, then I slipped in there and disconnected the battery to reset the codes for the visual test. He didn't catch it, so we move on to check the timing, which I knew was off, I don't have a timing light. As he is checking it, I slip in and loosened the distributor, and proceed to turn it, he had no idea what I was doing? He says wait! now it's perfect, what did you do? So I told him. He said, if you would have done that before you came in it would have passed. Needless to say I failed, again. So now the timing is set, at least? So this time I will have to drive it a bit more, to make sure the ce light doesn't come back. I failed the 15 mph test, the nox was to high, probably because the timing was too far advanced? What do you think? I passed the 25mph test, but was only 1 point below the max. So I will be back down there on Monday. Every time I drive it down there, I have to have someone follow me, because it's not registered. Like they say 3rd time is a charm? |
