So I drove to a friends house the other day to hang out before work, and it drove fine all the way there. But when when we went to leave, the car wouldn't start. All the lights would come on and I could hear a clicking noise, but the engine wouldn't turn over. I left my car parked in front of my friends house over night then went over the next morning and it started, I managed to get it home, but now it isn't starting again. it just clicks. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I was having some acceleration and gas mileage issue before this happened. |

starter motor failer. to be sure......heres a few simple tests. next time it clicks but wont crank over, 1# confirm a fully charged battery, use a multimeter, check battery voltage should be 12.6 volts give or take. grab a set of jumper cables, clean battery posts and check cables for tightness, attach jumper cables to battery. connect negative side to starter motor body. you will see a larger battery cable and a smaller wire connected to starter. remove the smaller wire and briefly touch jumper cable positive side to the terminal on the starter motor where the small wire connects. the starter motor should crank engine over while touching the contact. if so, see #2. if it goes "thunk" but never attempts to crank over engine, turn on head lights and repeat....if head lights dim slightly its fine, if head lights get realy dim....starter is bad. grab a hammer and give the starter a few good thumps. try again, if it cranks its the starter motor. (a solid wack with a hammer often "fixes" the starter motor for a while) #2 with jumper cable connected to small wire terminal on starter, the starter cranked engine. you now have a wireing problem. check all fuses. if none are bad please see this thread. http://geometroforum.com/topic/5135274/1/ |
