I have a 1993 metro I just finished rebuilding. I bored the engine 20 over, and installed .20 over pistons and rings. I used std crank and rod bearings. The oil pump is brand new. I have oil going into oil filter and coming out the oil sending unit. I installed oil pressure gauge and have no pressure. The oil light will not go out. Has any body run across this problem? Any help will be appreciated.

Are you cranking it for oil pressure before it's initial start up, but not seeing oil pressure? Sometimes fresh engines need a little extra 'kick' to get initial oil pressure. I usually lube the oil pump internals with clean fresh motor oil at assembly, so it seals good enough to pump the air out then draw oil up the oil pick up tube. Some guys coat the oil pump internals with STP or vasoline upon assembly. if you didn't do that, it's too late now, but not to worry... Try hooking the battery up to a big battery charger set on 'start' or greater than 15amps, then crank it over to see if the faster rpm will get the new oil pump to prime. Usually that will do the trick, so long as everything is put together properly |

Well I actually started the engine and rev it up to about 2000 rpms, but since the light did not go off I shut it back off. I starting to think the oil pump might be defective. If I rev it to about 3000 the light flickers off. |

Did you install a new o-ring in the oil sump pick-up tube? That has happened to someone on the forum. If the o-ring is not good the pump will suck air. |

There is an oil galley plug right inside the engine case close to the oil filter and pressure sender. If you forgot to reinstall this plug, you will not have oil pressure. |

Thanks guys for the replies. I found the problem. Geo Glenn was right I forgot to install the plug for the oil sending unit in the crankcase. Car runs great. Thanks again. |
