So as some of you might know I just got a 97 metro, my 95 quit on me she's garaged up for the summer and will be rebuilt this winter. I am looking to tune up my recently acquired 97 I have four new tires and brakes. I figured I mise well do everything else while I have the time. What spark plugs wires and oil does everyone generally use in their metros? Your feedback is greatly appreciated! If anyone else has any suggestions on what else I should do to my metro I'm open to opinions.

Thanks men!!! :thumb

Ngk plugs. I use the 3903 iridium. I use 7.5mm magnetic core wires (federal mag xts 82306), but most wiresets are ok. Make sure you get the tailored, or oem fit for the best seal and look. I always use synthetic oil in a clean no sludge engine. Or mobile one drive clean in pos's. I only use the distributor caps (standard motor products jh165) that have the copper electrodes. The aluminum ones work fine and are cheaper. The best rotor I found was an ac delco d474. i use the K&N e-9209 air filter. I always buy the lifetime parts over the others no matter the price. All these parts are special order tho.
Your car will run fine using the value parts. Everyone uses them. When I go to the store, the guy at the counter thinks I'm trying to turn my metro into a Cadillac.

Also, maybe pick up a bottle of seafoam and watch the YouTube how to, clean out egr carbon, new PCV valve, and pick up a can of FLUID FILM (awesome stuff) for general lube, or coat the engine bay and frame horns with it. Maybe even try to get it inside the horns.

Rock Auto has everything you could possibly want for a tuneup, so do some price comparisons between it, the local auto shop, and Ebay to find the best deals. Traditionally, I've found that Rock Auto does accurate (higher) shipping pricing and lower part pricing.

Rock auto or summit racing has the ngk 3903's but you could use the copper ngk's with no problem. ( A lot of people here prefer them over platinum/iridium. Same preformance, They just don't last as long. ) I got the distributor cap, and rotor from rock auto Last week. Those 2 parts ship from California, so it can take longer.

If your going to rock auto, don't forget they have federal mag xts (82306) wires on sale for 11.00 for a tailored fit.

Those one are. Supplier close out. Regular price is between 35-55 depending where you look. They don't make them anymore

Also look at the vacuum lines as these tend to rot out and be neglected. If you don't know when they were replaced, do it. This is cheap and can save you guessing later.

As for oil, use a 5W30 as the maker suggested. OR, you can use the good stuff and use a 5W30, 0W30, 0W40, or 5W40 synthetic oil. I tend to use the Mobil 1 0W40 European car formula as it meets the more stringent ACEA specs highly suggested by several members here. You can always find it locally AND it tends to be included in all sales for other Mobil 1 products. This is considered to be a superior product too.

You can get rubber lines at any auto parts store.

If you measure the inside diameter of the original hose or the outside diameter of the brass connection you can get silicone lines on eBay: Search: vacuum line silicone

Some members may know the correct size?? :dunno

Vacuum lines. Very easy. Drive to the store and open the hood. Reach in and pull one of the vacuum lines off. Remember where you pulled it from. Take it into the store and ask for 11 feet of the same interior diameter line. The guy behind the counter will come back with 11 feet and one inch of new vacuum hose. It will cost you all of eleven bucks. Go back outside with your original hose you took off the engine and reinstall it.

Easy Cheezy. So easy a caveman can do it after spending a night at a Holiday Inn Express.
