Blew my engine up...

On my way to school/work yesterday I got about a mile onto a highway and I started hearing a little metal smashing noise. The thought "are you fricking kidding me" crossed my mind really fast and right then it just sounded like a a bunch of metal exploded inside the engine and then something sounded like it snapped/broke violently and the engine died. I hurried and threw it in neutral and coasted safely off the road.

Anyways here I am...yay. Never done this before, but I'm spending the weekend going to take apart the engine as much as possible to see what exactly broken. Was going to buy this http://www.ebay.com/itm/96-00-Chevrolet-Geo-Metro-1-0L-G10-SOHC-Master-Overhaul-Engine-Rebuild-Kit-/400370724584?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1996|Make%3AGeo|Model%3AMetro&vxp=mtr&hash=item5d37f46ee8 what do you guys think? I'm still going to wait to order any parts as I'm on a serious budget so the cheaper the better.

Anything I will need to or highly should replace anyways that you recommend?

You will need to replace your engine sounds like. Did you have any oil in it? Oil light come on? Did you have any water in it? Did it run hot?

I'm totally awesome! I swear.

Don't buy ANYTHING, until you find out what broke. Your engine block could be toast; particularly if you threw a rod.

sound like you are going to be pulling it apart to find out what happened and what is broke and then making a trip to the junkyard to find an engine..........

We would still like to see your blown up engine when you get it apart.

I wouldn't buy anything till I found out the problem. If it threw a rod thru the case then I would I would start over with a doner motor, then mix and match till I had something I could believe in.

Yeah fluid levels are fine, and definitely not buying anything without knowing for sure what's broke as I myself am broke haha. I only called a few places in my area and they were wanting like $1,000-$1,500 for an engine! Hopefully this is a cheap fix... I will take pictures once I find out the damage.

The local to me pick n pulls are about $150 for a used motor. Geo Glenn rebuilds for (I THINK) about $800 plus delivery and does an outstanding job. You have a few options, good luck!

I was happy when my first Metro engine blew (because I wanted to rebuild one). I would be upset if my current Metro engine blew. I feel for you!

$800 is the old price.
The price now is $1555 exchange, plus $250 installation, and delivery is 13 cents a mile, round trip.
