ok now this has only happened bout 5 times but twice this week. i start up and leave the house and every thing is fine. but about 3 to 5 min later as i pull away from a red light or the hardees drive thru it starts to sputter and sometimes cuts off. when i crank it back up it sputters untill i can get it reved above 3000 rpm. it only happens in the morning or when i first drive it after sitting for several hours (10 or more)i am thinking something in the fuel system but i have been known to be wrong thanks |

sounds like it is holding onto the cold start gas supply too long and supplying too much gas after warmup has your gas mileage dropped lately? Edited by Old Man, May 19 2013, 08:12 PM.

This reminds me of when my sensor grounds were bad and how my car behaved until I fixed that. Remove sensor grounds and clean all contact points very well. I used fine steel wool and followed up with carb cleaner. I then applied electrical connection silicone grease and my car ran so much better. I also suggest checking your TPS but this sounds like a ground issue to me. Conor |

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Your fuel pump may be failing. |

Yea we know they made you get used to driving that fast trying to keep up with those 3 on the interstate. I would look at coolant temp sensor first then fuel pressure. |

Too many Hardy's cheeseburger wrappers weighing the car down? Get rid of the wrappers and maybe you'll see some zippyer performance. Or maybe just change the fuel filter. Oh yea, when you get the filter off, hold on to it just sooooo and make sure you don't pour the fuel out of it. Now after it is out of the harness and from underneath the car, pour the contents of the fuel filter into a white or clear container. You will see a BUNCH of rust in the liquid which comes out of it. That will make you scratch your head and make you wonder how the metro even fired up. Hang in there King. You will get it figured out.

Mine has done this before. It was my throttle position sensor. Mine does it when i get it wet (cleaning engine) or anytime unless I have it clocked all the way counter clockwise. There's slots where the screws mount the sensor. Facing the sensor, loosen the screws, and turn it counter clockwise all the way then tighten the screws. But first check the connector, and make sure it's not corroded then cover metal parts in bulb grease before putting it back on. This might fix it if that's what wrong, then again you might need a new sensor.
