i almost forgot about this factor......
during the time in wich the geo was parked for running on 1 cylinder, the radiator eventualy aquired a hole...hence no more coolent. :banghead

one day i had started the car and let idle a short while just to keep the battery charged.....well.....i forgot about it....for about 45 minutes. :banghead

when i remembered and went out there it was still idling fine, i shut it off. then just to be sure, i attempted to restart.....engine would barely turn over...no start. let cool off, tried the next day.....started right up on cylinder as normal.. was somewhere between 45-55 degrees that day.

engine has a new head on it, didnt notice any real scoreing of the cylinders.
my question is......in every ones opinion, is the bottom end good to go? how would the bottom end respond to being over heated, but only at a idle, and no load?

Unless it got REALLY hot, any damage would have likely been with the head or head gasket. Since you have a new head, any problems this created are likely gone. Do you have any idea how hot it was? How close was it to the red or was it well into the red?

what was the ambiant temperature at the time? I would bet that where you live it was cool enough that the pan heat transfer would keep the oil cool enough to not damage the rod and main inserts.-------probably wouldn't make 'em happy, just would not do any permanate damage.

thanks cwatkin and oldman!
it was a few years back (car was down for several years, and just now fixing to be put on the road again) i think the temp was 45-50 degrees, i could be off...probaly warmer in my error

the car was at idle the whole time, but radiator was destroyed...so no coolent

im not sure how long it will take before i can afford to do the bottom end.
