when i come to a stop at a light my car idles a little weird. it goes up and down a little bit, not a lot but enough to get noticed. about halfway through some of the gears it all of a sudden feels like i am driving into the wind. also on launch i'll sometimes have very little power until about 10 mph.

turning the ac on and off will stop this for a short time. leaving it on will keep it from happening.

what should i check?

Helter, Do you have an underdrive pulley on? This happened to me with two different Metros. I'm not sure but it could be when I switched to the smaller crank pulley. In a normal setup when you turn on the air or put on a electrical load the computer will try to compensate. With the smaller pulley I'm thinking this becomes exaggerated.

Could half way through the shifts be the exact moment you start pushing the gas pedal down? Try touching the gas pedal lightly on and off while rolling and see if your engine stutters before revving. Maybe your tps is bad or needs tweaked.
