Over Educated parts guy

I was looking at members on the forum.I am number 40 of the first 40, 33 of them have not been on here in over a year so I guess a lot of the members just have dropped out over the years.

It is simple attrition, guys. These cars have been out of production for 15 years...and they were considered disposable in the first place.

What's strange is that some members were pretty active, and just dropped off the face of the earth. Look at Kingthursday, for example. Over 1000 posts, and disappeared back in January 2015. And I still wonder what ever happened to member "Bogs". Anybody know? 9403 posts, gone in March 2013. Fulton County prison maybe? Just kidding !!!! :hmm

I've seen a ridiculous number of convertible metros this year. Normally, I see one or two, the sames ones over and over again each season. This year I've seen 8 or 10 of the dang things, not the same ones each time. You'd think they were still on the market...heck, I haven't even noticed that many Miatas kicking around this year.

The used car market has really plummeted in value concerning cars that are 15 years or older. In 2010 I could get $1700 for a 1991 Corolla all day long now I get $1000 if I'm lucky. Even the 02+ Civics around here are barely worth $1500 now. With parts shrinking these vehicles will be mostly gone in another decade. Very sad, lets just dispose of everything in the future! Cars by Dixie lol

Yep! These cars should have been gone a long time ago, but they keep on going. Factor in that every year so many more are crushed or wrecked. Hell of a run for a disposable car.

IMO the used car market corrected itself. For a while there it was ridiculous what shitty older vehicles were going for. When the job market is crappy, used car values go up. When the job market is better....or perceived to be better, used car values go down.

"Chicks dig me and guys think I'm cool."

Me thinks they're all over at the Mirage forum!! :lol

As far as me, I have my hot and cold moments in my love affair for the Metro. I currently have four, but two will be gone by next spring, if not sooner. I will only keep Miss Magenta and Little Miss Green. From there I will hoard parts to keep them going as long as I can and other Geo swag for the wall of the garage.

I have been thru this before...... In 1975 when I was 16 my first car was a 1965 Corvair.
Had at least a dozen of em over the next 15 years. Some daily drivers, stripped some for parts, some easy fixes and a quick resale too. (Talk about EASY to work on) Gradually they got more scarce, harder to find parts and never really ever went up in value. I wish I had kept my last one....a 66 Turbo Corsa!
Was you last one something like This?

Looks pretty cool! :thumb

I have a feeling the cost of gas will be a major determining factor in the future longevity of these little buggers. If gas prices get back in the 4$ range I m betting more people will be looking for ways to hang on. Either way personally I see them being around a while longer, I still see them every day, and maybe its cause I m into them now but I swear they've increased in numbers over the last few years rather than decreased.

I suppose it is shrinking somewhat. Like I have seen several caviars in the PnP in the last years... very complete... very surprising to see as they still seem rare and unique and cool. I have seen several 240, 280 Zs and some other smaller sport type cars..

I do miss the input of Mwebb and others.

I almost never see any Metros around here any more. They have mostly disappeared. Only ones left are at TimmyD's place, and mine. :lol

They rust out or something?

Cars don't rust here, and, because we're on an island with nowhere to go, they don't get worn out either...I can find half a dozen Metros within a 2 block radius. Not including my own! ^o)
