I definitely think it's mostly geographical. Been in town running errands for an hour and without even trying I've seen 8 including 2 verts, not including the car I'm driving.

Gotcha! I had an LHS that I flipped a while back and it was the newer model with the aluminum block interference engine. I ended up having to file a police report over the guy who bought that one and this kinda ended my hobby of flipping cars.

The nice thing about the Metro is how simple it is to work on. I am sure this has resulted in many being saved from the crusher. It also runs when horribly neglected and in poor condition. It may burn oil and smoke and only do this on two cylinders, but it will continue to run! I happened upon a 4 cylinder sedan version at Autozone one day while I was there. The thing had no oil showing on the stick and worst of all, it had launched a spark plug and sounded like a monster. The coilpack was trashed and shattered by the plug launching. They were driving it around like this and didn't know what to do. Anyway, I took a look at it and found that the noise was caused by a plug being gone from where it should have been. When I checked the oil out of habit and showed them how low it was, they just went inside and bought one quart of the cheapest oil available and dumped it in. I have no idea if this brought it near full or not because they left and drove off without checking and didn't seem to care that one of the cylinders was missing a plug.

The rest of this car appeared to be a basket case as well....

I remember you telling that story, but didn't know it was an LHS. I know some people that will only sell a car if the buyer follows them to not only the notary to sign it over, but also the title department and sign it into the buyer's name. I even knew someone that paid to have it put into their name so she didn't have to worry about anything falling back on her!

That poor Metro... at least you extended it's life a little bit. It's probably not running by now.

I almost never see any Metros around here any more. They have mostly disappeared. Only ones left are at TimmyD's place, and mine. :lol
They rust out or something?

Cars don't rust here, and, because we're on an island with nowhere to go, they don't get worn out either...I can find half a dozen Metros within a 2 block radius. Not including my own! ^o)
Rust isn't really a problem here. People are ashamed to be seen driving a Metro. They are too busy playing wanta bes, and keep up with the Joneses They prefer to be seen in their new Lexus, Volvo, Lincoln suv, or Beemer.
I noticed that! Lots of monster new luxury vehicles; especially on the beltway near DC. When I stopped at the WaWa in town, I was surrounded by them as well. However, like I told you, I did see the one red newer Metro hatch that looked JUST like yours in the Rent-A-Center furniture place (or whatever it was) parking lot.

You blokes got it all wrong. GMF had eight-hundred and something members when I joined. Now it is what, around 15,000-16,000? If Johnny's predictions are correct, next year membership is projected to be 23,000. In two years there will be more than 112,000 members. Do I have to think of everything?! :banghead

The vast majority of those thousands of members are not active. There have been thousands since I've been here - many of them spammers. In general, several folks believe that there were many more active members at the time than there are now. I couldn't say - I've only been here a few months over a year.

Exactly! Get up early one morning and notice all the posts about Nike, and whatever BS thing somebody is trying to sell. By sun up, our great mods have usually dispatched them. The task is akin to Whack a Mole, I'd say. Each one of those ads is a new "member". Thank you mods. :thumb

In this same vein, I gotta say I miss Coche's posts, even when he was kinda being an a$$...

Is the community REALLY shrinking? When I came here, there were usually about three pages of posts here.
I am only seeing about 1 page a day now for active topics. I remember when there were always at least four pages. Yea, the community is shrinking. God bless those who are still here though...

Some of us are just low-profile or semi-seasonal these days also. I have very little to report on my Blue MK1 anymore because I got to the point where I just drive it. Haven't had to put a wrench to it in a long time (knock on wood!) And I don't have a lot to contribute to a lot of the conversations because... MK1... but I am still around and still putting miles on the blueberry express! :D
