MR. Roboto looks great! :thumb

Some previous owners adjust the Factory Set Allen screw to up the idle to mask other problems ranging from bad/poorly gapped plus and wires to belt squeal and low compression. That may be your problem. BUT you have a ISC motor in your '97 then it may need work. ISC idle issue and ISC repair

my odb tester tends to say it's at 20 sometimes at 8 sometimes at 10 Which would be just looking at the timing while the ECM adjusts it according to what information the sensors are feeding it. You can short out the feed by putting a jumper on the test port and the timing should level out and be adjustable. Timing Jumper Location

thanks for the heads up I'll get to testing the isc by this weekend I was also reading a thread on the tbs and the warnings on powerwashing the engine bay.. (Guess what I did when I first got it?) :smackface for a while here it was idling at around 786 or so with bounce to 860s with advance at 6 or 7
after taking it out on a test now it's back to the 1400s how bad would it be if i drove it say 70 miles like this two way?
( need to have a tranny shop look at it and maybe another for a few small things)

Great car, and nice looking to. I have a 97 also. I noticed in the engine pic that the EGR transducer looks like it may be in the same spot as mine. can you tell me where it mounts to? When I got the car, it was zip tied to the throttle cable. The bracket is there that the transducer is in, but I am puzzled to how it mounts to the car. Its not hurting anything to leave it this way, just wondering.

Well, moisture is a major problem and should dry out with a few drives. I would not let it idle at 1400 for very long. Turning it off is a form of hypermileing. ;) ;) Driving along, you should be above 1400 rpm most of the time. ;) :lol

The high pressure could have gotten in the distributor or wires or even vacuum hoses? Maybe blown a hose off?

Transmission? The cable should have very little, but some, play in the end, switch over to Synchromesh. How I did it.

If you have moisture problems and it is causing an errant spark you can check it this way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXAFQa0R9hA

ok back at it again so I took it out for a great 50 mile spin and it's great! i swapped out the old guage cluster with one with a tach 5 digit and my mph is very close give or take 1 mph gas guage is still only reading half instead of close to full but temp tach and speed are good.

got the bottem half of the back bench seat washed and assembled need to do the top then figure how to do the carpet

as for the isc and the tps ...fiddling around with the tps to get 1v put voltage to the isc and it moves more to come!

Got the carpet cleaned don't you guys love that fresh laundry smell? ^o) two front seats to go!
so yea I screwed up the idle I got surging now inless I turn on the headlights then it stabilizes out I figure I'll pick up some extra tps and isc parts from a yard and let my mechanic buddy smooth it out.
I've been reading guys tune up there idle and timing to smooth out the vibrations.
any sugestions?
don't wanna kill my mpg but to smooth it out alittle would be nice

Thanks for this site guys! :cheers

Nice looking Metro! :thumb

Sounds like you are ready have it, but if not, this will help with the seats:
Link--->How to Wash Seat Covers; You're not fully clean, unless...

I bet your issue with you speedometer is the gear in the transmission, not your speedo cluster. Even though you got the transmission from a '96 I would still check the gear for the correct color and teeth. ^o)

Speedometer gears are NOT transmission specific (except auto and manual) True, most 4.10 transmissions came attached to 12" wheels, but the gear is not specific to that transmission. ^o)

Change your speedo gear to the tire size you need.

White gear with 17 teeth is for 145/80R12 (12") tires. Brown Gear with 16 teeth is for 155/80R13 (13") tires.

Auto speedo gear will not work on a Manual. Manual will not work on an Auto. They are different sizes.

There are NO differences in the speedometers as long as it reads the same. I.E. MPH or km/h

Also there are NO differences in the transmissions as to how speed is read. Only the size of the hole for the speedometer gear from Auto to Manual.

Excellent - Just got a 95 1.0 and I'm on the same task list.

On your headlamp swap - did you have any issues with the mounting hardware?

I'm taking out the old and put in the new as well, hopefully the mounting screw holes are there for the composite headlamp.

that is the exact post that got me into doing my seats Stiffchezze :D very nice write up I'll be tackling more hogrings when I ward off the case of the lazies.
If I keep looking at at dirt spot on my pas side seat that'll get me going. I got the floor when I got off work yesterday took it to a carwash because my sideloader is too small it'll be drying for a couple of days do you got any magical way of hiding cig burns? :lol

as for the speedo mine looked like a guage crapping out when I did the swap it's better then my 03 outback with stock tires.

I really should post more pics sorry guys

I had no issues with mounting the hardware everything fits in great.
there's a little plastic hook on the bottem on the light that sits in one of the holes make sure you got that in or it may wobble also at the outter corner of the light there is a peg that fits into a hole onthe frame that the quarter pannel sits on I was missing a plastic sleve on that and had to fetch one at a yard I figure because that end got a knock in it enough to crack up the old bucket light it fell out.
I've discovered two composite light types at the yard an older 2 light model (1 marker and 1 headlight) it has more texture on the lens and I think uses H4 bulbs and a 3 light model (1 marker 1 headlight and 1 something I think is turn signal) the lens is smoother and uses 9004 or 9007 bulbs (looks better I think) and there where of those so I grabed them.
the marker is a strait fit in, the 9004-9007 bulbs screw in and make the seal on the headlight housing but I needed to make a pigtail from the connector I grabbed for those bulbs from the parts car to the old connector on my 97 as far as the third light I have nothing in them (yet).
Maybe floods maybe turns maybe HID maybe strobes maybe lazers maybe some other kind of doom will go in that spot :evillol

Here is the pinouts I worked with to get them up I had to play with them at night to get the highs and lows right and then use the ajust gear on the light housings to get them pointed nice.
Any of the more knowledgeable folks here please correct me on these composite lights if there's anything I missed

crap well I'm dead in the water with with this surging idle issue got a second tps and isc got a feeler gauge 3.505mm is what I could count out I adjust hot to 1v tried 97v trying lower after reading http://geometroforum.com/topic/4669137/1/
it smooths out when I turn the headlights on vac hoses replaced and in place.. if I can only get this one problem I can live with anything else for now....

i wonder if the idle surge is something to do with vacuum. do you have a vacuum guage ? i have one permanently connected in my engine bay.
i dont know anything about the 3 cyls but in my factory manual there is a large troubleshooting section in the engine controls chapter for the 1.0. perhaps if you get one of the proper books you can follow their excellent troubleshooting tables and find out exactly the problem.
