Stereo Harness: (You wire this to an aftermarket stereo to connect it to the factory harness) 89-99: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=%28IM01B%2C+70-1782%2C+IWH974%2C+GHI1782%29&_sop=15 [Scosche IM01B] [Metra 70-1782] [American International IWH974] [GHI1782] Note: The American International branded harness does NOT come with a Dimmer Wire. It DOES have an Illumination Wire. The Scosche branded harness has both Illumination and Dimmer. Most, if not all, aftermarket stereos use only Illumination, so this should not be a problem for most installations. 00-01: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=%28GM05B%2C+70-2003%2C+GWH416%29&_sop=15 [Scosche GM05B] [Metra 70-2003] [American International GWH416] ![]() ![]() In this picture you can clearly see the lack of Dimmer wire (Orange/White) in the American International harness, which is on the left. ![]() Recently picked up a Metra harness. It has a slightly different part number [ABMW-1782] so perhaps it's NOS? (Copyright 2003 adds to this probability.) ![]() It does come with the Dimmer wire. Reverse Harness: (A previous owner cut the factory harness, and you want to put it back to normal) 89-99: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_nkw=%28IM01RB%2C+71-1782%2C+IWH975%29&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1 [Scosche IM01RB] [Metra 71-1782] [American International IWH975] 00-01: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=%28GM05RB%2C+71-2003-1%2C+GWH415%29&_sop=15 [Scosche GM05RB] [Metra 71-2003-1] [American International GWH415] Wiring diagram for wiring a reverse harness to a 96 Geo Metro: ![]() Antenna: 89-94 Hatchback: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370461814439 Convertible: http://www.antennamastsrus.com/GEO/Metro/Geo%20Metro%201989-1994.htm (Bottom of the page) 95-01 (Standard sized plug, not the mini plug 00-01s normally have, this won't work with a stock 00-01 stereo): http://www.ebay.com/itm/370461814420 Mount Kits: Universal (? Unconfirmed...) 92-01, but most significantly, it fits 92-94, kits are harder to find for those: [American International GMK407] http://www.ebay.com/itm/190965201385 [Metra 99-3410] http://www.ebay.com/itm/201046404579 Pocket that MAY or MAY NOT snap into the above kit: [Scosche 1255] http://www.ebay.com/itm/330272396720 (If you buy both and it DOES fit, please post about it here!) 95-01: [American International GMK410] http://www.ebay.com/itm/110992041687 (No pocket, single DIN) [American International GMK420] http://www.ebay.com/itm/281009428690 (Pocket, single DIN) For 92-94, if you can find an OEM mount cage, they are the best thing you will find. Quality metal construction. Nothing aftermarket compares. Sometimes does and sometimes does not include a pocket. For 95-01, you can get the mount wraparound from a Suzuki Esteem (I don't know what years) that sometimes does and sometimes does not include a pocket. Without pocket is what you need for a Double DIN installation. ![]() On the left, the Esteem stereo bracket, with pocket. On the right, a 92-94 Metro stereo bracket, with pocket. The pockets on both are removable, if you would like to install a 2-DIN stereo. The hole in the tab on the back of the Esteem bracket has a plastic harness clip attached, which you must remove to remove the bracket. Pinch with pliers, and it will push out. The shiny screw in the back of the 92-94 Metro pocket, can only be seen by sticking your head up in the passenger footwell. It is often rusted in place. Be very careful; it is very easy to strip the screw out. Two hints: spritz a bit of lubricant on it, let it soak in, and try to tighten the screw slightly, before loosening. Sounds crazy, but it works. Speakers: 89-94: 4" Round Speakers in the dash 4"x6" Oval Speakers in the rear parcel shelf side mounts if equipped Pyle PL42BL: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000230LBI/ Currently approved by Turbo Dan-O after installation. 95-01: 6.5" Round Speakers in the doors 6.5" Round Speakers in the back (Near passenger footwell in Hatchbacks, in the rear shelf in a Sedan.) (Recommended by member cgem) Pyle PL63BL: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000230LC2 Speaker Harness: 89-94: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161375313415 [Metra 72-9300] 95-01: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360586196866 [Metra 72-4500] ![]() Speaker Mount: 92-94: http://www.tune-town.com/Cars/stuff/Geo/1992-94_Geo_Metro.htm [Metra 82-3410] This is to mount a 6.5" speaker in the stock speaker mounting location. ![]() ![]() Stereo Head Unit: Stereo selection is a very personal thing. You will want to take into account the various features you would like. Examples: CD Player AUX Port USB Port (Charging only? Can read music off a flash drive?) Bluetooth (Music Streaming Only? Hands Free Phone Capability?) SD Reader Single DIN vs. Double DIN iPhone or Android Compatibility Styling Color Brand Preference There are just too many variables involved to recommend a stereo without knowing that information. 1989-1991: Single DIN only; without extreme modification, it is not possible to fit a Double DIN unit in this dash. 1992-1994: Single DIN or Double DIN. 1995-2001: Single DIN or Double DIN. |

REALLY nice list Mythstae! ![]() I'll add to the speakers list for 89-94 hatchback dash 4" speakers: Boston Acoustics SE45: http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Acoustics-Se45-4-Inch-Speakers/dp/B0054SQSWC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330115698&sr=8-1 Polk Audio DXi400: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DXI400/Polk-Audio-DXi400.html?showAll=N&search=DXI400&skipvs=T I bought a pair of SE45s and love them, and t3ragtop seems to be enjoying his Polk Audio speakers. Thanks! I was trying to have a place for some of the most-needed stuff. My speakers are, of course, just a suggestion (and one I don't even have installed in my car yet). Speaker choice is a very personal thing, just like what stereo you want to install. But knowing what size they are is hugely helpful! |

I'm trying more for specific-ish info, in this thread. More "95+ hatchbacks can use 5.25" or 6.5" speakers in the door", and less "I like [or don't like] X brand of speaker." |

Are there any other "big names" that sell the stereo harnesses, besides Scosche and Metra?

Hey, cool! Found a new thing: speaker harness! Plugs into the OEM harness, and already has plugs for aftermarket speakers on the end. Link added to the first post! |

First post edited to reflect some new knowledge: I had originally recommended Metra 72-9301 for 89-94 speaker harness. Old Man purchased some at my recommendation; I go to do a test fit on some spliced-off wire ends I collected for this very purpose. Physically, they fit. One small problem: Positive and negative wires are reversed. ![]() The CORRECTED part number is Metra 72-9300. |

My hatch has two little holes (3.5" diameter) for tiny speakers. Anyone have any good ideas for mounting something with a bit more "ooomph" to 'em? Nothing crazy, no bigger than a 6.5" 3-way. There are two "somethings" mounted with zip ties behind my rear side panels where there's supposed to be a vent on each side. I haven't bought the rears yet, so I could go with a 4x6 up to the 6.5". I just need to figure out a place to put them. I really don't want to take a jigsaw to the hatch to enlarge those holes ... Thoughts?? Edited by perfesser, Nov 25 2013, 12:21 AM.
