I want to remove and replace my door mounted seat belts. I know I can get the front seat belts from a 95+ metro and put them in my '91, BUT... those are few and far between and not found in local junkyards. I have, however, found a 1993 metro. (With the engine sitting on the ground in front of it... I should grab that...) My question is this: Can I use the rear seatbelts from the 1993, and mount them in the already-present holes in the door frame of the 1991? |

Take them from another car, Metro seat belts are Every metro I've ever owned seems to have some kind of issue with the seat belts. They lock, snag, tear, etc |

I took the 'B' Pillar mounted belts from a 97 and put them in my 93. Works like a charm, Don't forget to get the latch portion as well. Also, others have done the same thing. (GeoJoJo comes to mind)It makes the belts easier to use (imho) and lightens the car by 10#. |

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I'd like to change mine out, too. I hate the door mounted belts on my car. The shoulder belt cuts right across my neck. Which is odd, I think, because I'm of average height (5'10"), and I tend to sit VERY erect in the seat; so much so that, unless I have my hair cut really short, the top of my head scrapes the headliner. My GF is about 5'5", and she's always complained about car seatbelts riding too high on her. And now that I have my Geo, I understand what she's been complaining about all these years. I feel her pain. Fortunately, for her, she drives the Camry; which has one of those slide adjuster things to raise or lower the pillar mounting point. Given how annoying the door mounted belts are, I find it a bit odd, and annoying, that seatbelts for '95+ cars don't come up on for sale threads like you'd think they would. |

Probably the best mod I've done knowing that it actually works -- the first 6 months of owning the Metro was without à working set of seatbelts. $25 well spent and getting rid of à bunch of weight from the doors was another bonus.

The back seat plastic side panel looks like it has a place for the the belt to pass through it, up at the top. Did you replace that panel, too, when you added the, pillar-attached, seat belts? Does anyone know of a good way to blank off the front door panels, where the belt used to come through it, after you do the swap, or do you just, live with it? |

I did not replace the panel. You just need to cut the notch, its already outlined, you will see it. Need to drill the hole on the B pillar and the hole on the floor is already there. Be sure to put a steel plate behind the bolt on the B pillar to distribute the load. Edited by shaft, Jul 21 2013, 05:23 PM.

Ive never had a car where they all worked either. I got all rear ones working and the passenger sticks. I dont think the drivers does anything. The ones in the tracker lock up really really really easy. Girls hate riding in it bc of tit squashing lol |

The seat belt mod is great, there are some other threads discussing it, and it seems tinker knows about 95+ belts already but there aren't any around him. The question remains about whether or not the rear belts from a 94- will fit. A google search shows results that would say maybe to, but that's not a very good answer. Why not go to pull the belt and see if it fits up in the same car before you buy it? If it's another excuse to go to a junkyard, that's good enough for me. |

PM sent, shaft. Dover, I may do just that. There is a nice little 1993 sitting at my favorite pick and pull. I will attempt to buy the seatbelts mentioned above, but if I have to - I will go for the belts in the back of the 1993. |

Please let us know how you make out with adapting the rear belts. To me, they look like they might be too short to use for fronts, but I haven't actually tried it, so maybe you'll get lucky with it. I sure hope so, as I've GOT to do something with mine, and soon. My drivers side belt shit the bed on me early last week. The bottom feed is locked up and won't budge. I didn't want to risk getting, yet another, $75 ticket, for not wearing it, so I've been taking the passenger's side belt and looping it around the drivers side, and then clipping that, in its stead. I doubt it would do anything for me in the event of a crash, but it will, at least, keep me from getting another ticket until I can come up with a suitable replacement. |
